Visioning is… A structured process to help members develop a long term plan for the future of your Club A way to move Clubs up the ‘vibrancy scale’ An ongoing process A process fully supported by RIBI A Programme, fully supported by our 1250 DGs for the next 3-4 years Rotary International District 1250 3

A bit of background Visioning started in 2002 in District 5960 (Minnesota and Wisconsin) Developed by Rotarians Steve and Terri Wilcox who adapted techniques they use professionally Spread to Canada, New Zealand, Australia and now across RIBI. In use in 94 Districts worldwide Now fully committed to in the UK Rotary International District 1250 4

  5. Visioning is not… Not anything to do with SPECSAVERS! Not just about getting new members Not anything to do with Future Vision Not about change for the sake of change! Not something you will be told to do by District or the DG Not a quick fix! Rotary International District 1250 5

  6. So why is a plan needed? The world around us is changing-fast! Tradition of annual cycles has not always been fully effective Need for greater Continuity, Consistency and Consensus Ability of ALL club members to shape the focus of the club Rotary International District 1250 6

Visioning Sessions • Facilitated by the District Visioning team • Involves all members –up to about 30 max. • Up to four hours • Uses a tried and tested methodology gets the group to answer the key planning questions • Who are we? • Where are we? • Where do we want to be? • How will we get there? • How will we know when we get there? Visioning Session - output A Club Vision which becomes a living management tool that: • Defines a shared commitment • Provides long-term direction • Creates a framework to establish goals and objectives • Optimises use of resources • Forms the basis of a Plan Rotary International District 1250 16

Visioning follow-up Structured next steps to be completed by the Club • Write a Club Vision/Purpose statement • Present at club business meeting-gain consensus • Create 3-5 year plan • Breakdown into Annual Goals • By working area (ie International Service, Community Service, Public Image) • Use resources/ideas/support from District, RI, RIBI, other clubs, other NGO’s, business, etc. Rotary International District 1250 18

Where are we up to in our District? • Core 1250 Facilitator Team: John Watkins, Simon Crowther, Frank West ,Sue Knight, David Gill. • Facilitator training was 13th July at Holiday Inn Guildford • First full club Visioning Session was on 8th September • More sessions booked for, February, March, April and May • 30% of Clubs in District now had Visioning presentations • Clubs-Good uptake to do full Visioning Session • The District Executive Teams and Committee Chairs have engaged in a full Visioning Session on Saturday 14th December 2013 Rotary International District 1250

  23. Where are we up to in our District? Continued… • District committed to a 3-4year programme • We want more Volunteers to train as Facilitators next year • We want 5-6 or more in next years training session -Could it be you? • This will be another joint training session with District 1140 in Spring 2014 Rotary International District 1250
