  2. What it is… • Cosmetology is so much more than people think, it’s defined as the study of beauty treatment. • Its not only hair, like most people think, but nails and skin as well.

  3. Hair • There are so many things you can do with your hair. • Color • Cut • Perm • Straighten • Style

  4. Skin • Your skin is complex and needs taken care of. • One of the services that people enjoy are facials. • Among other services are hair removal, and massages.

  5. Nails • There is so much you can do with your nails. • Nail art is one of the more popular things in the cosmetology business. • You can paint your natural nail, or get artificial nails with acrylic or gel. • With nail art you can be creative and let your mind wonder.

  6. Schooling • You must obtain 1500 hours in school not only doing hair, but learning about chemistry, electricity, and other sciences as well. You then must pass your State Board Exam.

  7. State Board Exam • There are two parts to this exam. • Practical • Written During the practical, you have to be able to wrap a perm, do a 90 degree haircut, a manicure, facial, and a color on your mannequin all while a team of people watches over you and checks it when you finished.

A day in the life of a Cosmetologist • As a hair stylist there are many duties that need to be performed. • Cuts, trims and shapes hair • Bleaches, dyes, or tints hair • Massages and treats scalp • Recommends and applies cosmetics, lotions, and creams to clients • Shapes and colors eyebrows and removes facial hair • Cleans, shapes, and polishes fingernails and toenails • Updates and maintains customer information records, such as beauty services provided • Cleans and tidies the salon
