Agenda • Today • Welcome to theory review.
Final Exam. • 3 parts: • 1 – (Theory) it will be a theory test, encompassing all things we have talked about. • 2 (Practical) you will have to do another practical test. • 3 (Performance) Play your song for me. • I will try and have this done before the final week of classes.
String Name • E, A, D, G, B, e • E, F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E • Major Scale: • Tone, Tone, Semi-Tone, Tone, Tone, Tone, Semi-tone.
Music Staff • A clef is a musical symbol used to indicate the pitch of written notes. • The one we often use is the Treble or “G” Clef, as it circles the “G” note on the Staff. • On the Music Staff in front of you, put a “G” clef on each line. Make sure you are putting it in the proper location.
I expect the following… • Make sure to place a treble clef. • Make sure to place all notes. • Finally, place these on the blank music staff provided.
Or • E, F, F#, G, G#,A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#,E • So, the E Major Scale: • E, F#, G#, A, B, C#, D#, E • Normal Rock, Blues, etc… will commonly use the 1, 4, 5 progression.
Progression • is a series of chords played in order. • I want to know the 1,4, 5, progression for: Key of C, E, and A.
Scales… Chromatic Scale. Major Scale. Pentatonic Scale.
Pentatonic Scale. The major scale we use is made up of 7 notes. (Heptatonic) The Pentatonic Scale is made up of only 5. (Pentatonic) Penta = 5 Tonic = Tones.
Minor Scale E, F, F#,G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E So, the E Minor Scale: E, F#, G, A, B, C, D, E

What is Tablature? • a form of musical notation, which tells players where to place their fingers on a particular instrument rather than which pitches to play.
Finally, formation of bar chords. • You will need to know how to name and make the bar chords for the E, A, Em, and Am configurations.
What I will expect for your exam. • Parts of the guitar. • Basic Chords, Power Chords, and Bar Chords. • Music staff. • Value of notes. • How to read tab and music notation. • Know how to transcribe. • Chromatic, Pentatonic, Major, and Minor Scale. • Dynamics.
