Loss of innocence in Romeo and Juliet • Romeo said, “This day’s black fate on more days doth depend. This but the woe others must end” (3.1.124). • When the nurse tells Juliet that Romeo has killed Tybalt and has been banished, Juliet asks “O God, did Romeo’s hand shed Tybalt’s blood?” The nurse said, “It did, it did” (3.2.78-79).

Loss of Innocence Loss of innocence can be both a normal experience or one that is traumatic. For most of us, it’s something that usually occurs as we get older and learn to think for ourselves. Loss of innocence is sometimes the result of a terrible experience, as in the Rwanda Genocide.
