NACW Vision Healthy BONES Initiative Commissions for Women [CFWs] across the country are leaders in the reduction of the debilitating effects of fractures resulting from osteoporosis in women.
NACW Objective Healthy BONES Initiative To develop, deploy and sustain a comprehensive ready-to-use resource kit that provides resources for CFWs to take effective action in the fight against osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis A Silent Debilitating Disease • Osteoporosis – A serious silent disease often without systems. • In the United States 10 million Americans [80% are women] already have osteoporosis and millions more have low bone mass. • Of the 5.1 million women age 65 or older in the United States, it is estimated that nearly 72% received neither a bone mineral density test nor treatments in 2001. • Osteoporosis is not an age specific disease. • According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1.5 million fractures are associated with osteoporosis each year. • Osteoporotic Fractures – The debilitation center and cost center of the disease of osteoporosis.
