Z A M B I A RED CROSS SOCIETY GF Round 11 Process in Zambia • Zambia responded to the GF Expressions of interest in February 2011 and was invited to submit an application in Malaria and TB. • As part of the process leading to the submission of the NSA, a Joint Assessment was conducted by in-country and external partners who used a detailed Joint Assessment of the National Strategy (JANS) tool to guide an assessment of the core set of relevant strategic documents - NMSP, OP and the Surveillance M&E Plan for 2011-2015. • Feed back from the JANS report stated the strengths & weaknesses of the NMSP document which needs to be addressed. • On the 29th and 30th Sept. 2011, stakeholders met to attend to the comments in the JANS report. Z A M B I A RED CROSS SOCIETY Key Strategic Interventions for the NMCP Strengthen and scale-up the key internationally accepted interventions, based on epidemiological situation through: • Integrated vector management (IRS, ITNs, Larviciding) • Prompt diagnosis and treatment of malaria including IPT • Epidemic preparedness and response. • Operations Research. • Surveillance, Monitoring and Evaluation. • IEC. • Programme management TARGET AREAS • Eastern, Luapula, and Northern • These are equally areas where the NS has implemented projects before and the branches are still active. Z A M B I A RED CROSS SOCIETY NS Interventions Programme Goal • To reduce morbidity and mortality due to malaria among the population of Katete districts through universal coverage and utilization of LLINs. Programme Objectives • To increase the percentage of under fives, pregnant women and the vulnerable people sleeping under ITNs through ‘Hang up’ Keep up campaigns in the target population. • Ensure that the population of Katete district are reached with information, education and communication (IEC) and behavior change communication (BCC) messages about the dangers of malaria and the importance of hanging and using LLINs; • To contribute to coverage of LLINs in households with at least a minimum of 3 LLINs through distribution, Indoor Residual Spraying (community sensitization on importance of IRS) and controlling of breeding sites. • Strengthening capacity of the volunteers and HQ staff in Malaria prevention and control techniques through trainings TOGETHER FOR HUMANITY
