Streaming Video Highlights • Deposit and Digitization Master Agreement • Benefits of a Streaming Video Collection • No need for physical acquisitions • Shared cataloging • New possibilities for user access • Online access to vendor collections for the first time • Overall reduction in staff workload and time spent • Single sign on for access to all licensed videos
Streaming Video Collections increased to 30 with over 5,000 titles. New Vendor Collections to be determined by VALE Digital Media Committee • Survey conducted in Summer 2010 revealed that institutions were interested in negotiating with additional vendors. More vendors have been added in 2012.
15 Institutions joined in purchasing • Content is stored in NJ Core. • Institutions will need to be authenticated via Shibboleth (http://njtrust.org) • New content purchased will be downloaded, converted or sent via a hard drive to NJ Core.
VALE Digital Media Committee Charge: To provide a vehicle for VALE members to obtain streaming rights for Digital Media by: • Brokering with media distributors for the VALE member institutions for digital rights to stream media. • Developing a licensing model that can be used for negotiations with distributors. • Implementing a calendar for reviewing new contracts and committing to the established price. • Collaborating with NJVid’s grant partners and NJEDge.Net to deliver content for VALE member institutions.
VALE Digital Media Committee Workflow cycle: Meet 3 times per year. Fall meeting: • Develop model licensing agreement to present to distributors. • Review new proposal from media distributors. • Review VALE member survey results to determine interest. • Assess contracts/licenses/pricing, confirm status or change. • Review governing agreement with consortium.
VALE Digital Media Committee Winter meeting: • Determine distributors based on member survey. • Establish pricing and send interest form to VALE members. Spring meeting: • Determine final distributor pricing, get feedback from members. • Obtain commitment/sign-off from VALE members by July 1st. • VALE members who commit by July 1st receive agreed pricing.
