  1. Effects of unhealthy eating Authors: Piotr Kwiecień & Marcel Gómułka

  2. Table of contents • changes of fatty mass of the body • general decline in mental ability • cardiovascular diseases • hyperlipidemia • atherosclerosis • coronary disease • obesity • tooth decay • hyperthyroidism • physical backwardness • pregnancy complications

  3. Changes of fatty mass of the body Gaining weight, reduction of the motor and psychological efficiency, balance problems, yo-yo effects, problems with returning to the normal weight.

  4. Fall in the intellectual efficiency. Lack of movement, sitting lifestyle, unhealthy and fattening food cause that brain is anoxic and works slowly, which affects decrease of intellectual efficiency.

  5. Cardiovascular diseases Disorders of the organs and tissues included in the cardiovascular system , especially the heart, arteries and veins. They are often called diseases of the cardiovascular system.

  6. Hyperlipidemia Hyperlipidemia – is an increase in the concentration of harmful cholesterol in the blood, affects mainly obese people.

  7. Atherosclerosis Atherosclerosis – chronic disease, involving on changes of degenerative-production in in the intima and central arteries, mainly in aorta, in the coronary arteries and cerebral, more rarely in arteries of limbs . Atherosclerosis is most often a cause of arterioscleroses. (łac. arteriosclerosis).

  8. Coronary disease A risk of its development rises proportionally with the increase of the body weight. It is a syndrome of morbid symptoms which is a result of the chronic state of insufficient supply of the cardiac muscle cells with oxygen and nutrients. As a result, it often leads to angina and myocardial infarction.

  9. Obesity Obesity-Pathological accumulation of body fat in a system, exceeding its physiological needs and adaptive abilities which can lead to disadvantageous effects for health. Obesity is seen as condition in which adipose tissue of whole body mass of men exceeds more than 20% and 25% of women body mass.

  10. Dental caries Dental caries, also known as tooth decay or a cavity, is a disease where bacterial processes damage hard tooth structure. These tissues progressively break down, producing dental caries (cavities, holes in the teeth). Two groups of bacteria are responsible for initiating dental caries: Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus. If left untreated, the disease can lead to pain, teeth loss, infection and, in some cases, death.

  11. Hyperthyroidism Hyperthyroidism- is the term for overactive tissue within the thyroid gland causing an overproduction of thyroid hormones. Hyperthyroidism is thus a cause of thyrotoxicosis, the clinical condition of increased thyroid hormones in the blood. Thyroid hormone is important at a cellular level, affecting nearly every type of tissue in the body. Thyroid hormone functions as a controller of the pace of all of the processes in the body. This pace is called metabolism. If there is too much thyroid hormone, every function of the body tends to speed up. It is therefore not surprising that some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are nervousness, irritability, increased perspiration, heart racing, hand tremors, anxiety, difficulty sleeping etc.

  12. Physical backwardness By an excessive amount of body fat and increased body mass our organism is less efficient which causes that child grows up slowly than its peers. That is why it can make „making” friends harder.

  13. Pregnancy complications Pregnancy complications - risk of neural tube defects in foetus of obese expectant mothers is increased, mortality of the infants is also increased. Obese women are more often diabetic and have hypertension.
