  1. Geospatial Line of Business Common Services Workgroup update SmartBUY announcement and GEAR introduction

Common Services Work Group Vision: • Ensure that every agency has the same access to a federal–wide portfolio of the best geospatial tools, data, software, and services through well-negotiated contracts and common interagency agreements in order to maximize time and cost savings across all participating government entities. Purpose: • Introduce and expand upon SmartBUY Enterprise License Agreements for geospatial technologies, services and data. • Drive cost savings/efficiencies and improved service across the government. • Encourage interagency cooperation and sharing of resources via MOUs/SLAs. • Encourage the sharing of geospatial data, tools, and best practices across government. Major Tasks: • ImplementSmartBUY (and alternatives) to buy commercial geospatial technologies. • Implement mechanism to share geospatial technologies already built.

Geospatial SmartBUYHow it Affects Your Agency Concept: • Leverage the full purchasing power of the Federal Government to drive significant cost savings/efficiencies and improved service for software products and services. Objectives: • Create a hypercompetitive environment for geospatial software and products. • Allow access to all agencies, including federal, state and local governments and tribal entities. • Reduce the administrative burden on agencies in terms of cost and price through streamlined acquisitions. • Encourage agency “piggy backing” via MOUs and SLAs. Sharing Geospatial Applications Across Our Community • The Geospatial Community spends $ to address common problems: • Search and Discovery (Metadata), • Conversion (Geocoding/Transformation), • Viewing Geospatial Data (Browsers, Viewers), • And other needs (Analytical Services, Best practices etc.). • It is often difficult to locate solutions for reuse, so many application solutions are developed to address a common problem. • We are building a mechanism to reuse investment in these areas. We call it GEAR!

  5. What is it? • Geospatial Applications Registry (GEAR) is a simple, lightweight, and useful place that offers centralized access to information about geospatial software solutions and enables users to share their experiences with specific applications forming a community of practice.

  6. Who is it intended for? • While anyone interested in geospatial technology may be a user of this registry, Federal, tribal, state, and local government users are specifically encouraged to utilize the information available and contribute both content and commentary.

  7. What are the benefits to users? GEAR • Serves as a credible/reliable resource for access to information about geospatial technology solutions. • Savestime researching geospatial software applications and enables informed choices about the most cost-efficient approaches to support their business requirements. • Provides users with insightful commentary based on experiences from other users, helping them judge the suitability of a particular application. • Opens access to information such as demos, training, case studies, and technical specifications.

  8. How does it work? • Users will Nominate geospatial applications for listing in the registry. • After Review, the nominations will be Published to the registry for public view. • Public users will post Comments offering insights into their experiences with these applications.

  11. Nominator Nominator can be • anyone in your organization • has to be knowledgeable about the application to fill the nomination form completely and appropriately Account Request • Can signup directly on the registry and start nominating

  12. Super User Super User has to be • a subject matter expert in any of the nomination categories • approved by the CSWG • willing to spend some time reviewing and approving the nominations Account Request • Can signup directly on the registry and request super user access (email Vaishal)
