History of Horseback Riding • 1600 BC—Earliest record of horseback riding • Found in an Egyptian tomb • Used for chariots and war purposes • 4000 BC—Brahmins of India claimed to have first ridden a horse • 5th to 15th centuries (Medieval Times)—Horses categorized by use, not breed • Mid 1600s—Western riding developed • Northern Mexico and southwestern US • Work purposes and rope cattle • English riding developed in Europe, later brought to US

Summary • I’ve been riding for 6 years • I enjoy riding both English and Western styles • Some don’t give riding enough credit • It’s a very good workout • It tones every bit of your leg and abdominal muscles • It takes just as much mental skill as it does physical skill • In order to ride decently, horse and rider must trust and respect each other
