  1. Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation (AEF)

  2. What is the AEF This is not the entity which actually develops the International Agricultural Electronics Standards. This function is still handled by ISO PM23/SC19 and the associated Working Groups. The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation is an independent, industry, organization intended to provide the necessary continuing promotion and support for Agricultural Electronics Standards after they have been developed and adopted by the international community.

  3. IGI The Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation replaces two existing industry voluntary support groups; Implementation Group ISOBUS (IGI) and the North American ISOBUS Implementation Task Force (NAIITF). The AEF therefore will bring a more coordinated effort to the support activities these two volunteer groups have provided in the past, as well as providing for formalized funding and resources.

Agricultural Industry Electronics Foundation Objectives Manage and improve the ISOBUS compatibility-tests (reproducibility of test results, automation, documentation) Provide an industry group which can promote and guide overall electronic development Provide an entity which holds all rights on ISOBUS (brand, test-specification, certificate) Coordinate international electronics cooperation Coordinate technical enhancements (Implememntation Levels) Organise and provide certifications, plugfests, workshops, marketing-activities, training, consulting

There are two levels of membership defined during the first year of AEF operations Founding Membership The Founding Members as a group make decisions about projects, budget, priorities, etc. There is an initial limitation to a Founding Member Group of 10 manufacturers and 2 associations Cooperation in Working Groups and nomination of experts General Membership Cooperation in Working Groups and nomination of experts Receive communications about the Foundation activities

Criteria for Founding Membership • Must be manufacturers of tractors or agricultural machinery or the respective associations of those manufacturers as is AEM and VDMA. • Foundation Members i.e. manufacturers of tractors or agricultural machinery that are represented by associations other than AEM and VDMA are allowed to invite their respective associations to become a foundation member as long as this OEM is a Foundation Member. • Must have demonstrated designated expertise in the area of Ag Electronics. • Must have demonstrated a strong past involvement and commitment to standardization efforts pertaining to Ag Electronics. • Must provide adequate personnel and financial resources to help man the various project teams and committees of AEF, independent of the ISO standardization Working Groups. • Must support the objectives and goals of AEF.

  7. Proposed Criteria for General Membership Open to any organization of individual that has an interest in Electronics as it is applied to agricultural or forestry applications. There is no initial assessment fee for membership. Must agree to identify a qualified individual who will be the primary contact for all communications by the Foundation. Is expected to provide some level of personnel and travel resources to help man the various task forces and committees of the Foundation, independent of the ISO development Working Groups.

  10. Agricultural Electronics Foundation Coordinator The coordination is initially performed by two individuals, one funded by VDMA and one funded by AEM. Project Teams manned by individual volunteers assigned by the member companies.

  11. 6 Project Teams • International cooperation with experts from many members is necessary • Resources and priorities • The subjects ‘ISOBUS Conformance Test‘ and ‘Safety of Electronic Controls, ISO 25119‘ and ‚Communications‘, have the highest priorities

Critical activities needed to support the ISOBUS Conformance test • Further development to optimize reproducibility, automation and documentation • Development of automatic test-tools for basic functionalities of Implementation Levels • Provide that all rights on ISOBUS test & test specification are held by AEF • Making these needs a reality through A Project Team ‘Conformance Test‘ which will: • develop a specification for test-tools and test-software • Development a specification for test-laboratories • Development binding rules for the execution of Conformance tests • Execution of an official announcement for the Conformance test

  13. AEF Foundation Organization meeting in Frankfurt, Germany, 28 October 2008. First Official Steering Committee Meeting in Frankfurt, 27 January 2009. All six project Teams reported on progress at the 27 January meeting. Next Official Steering Committee Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, 24 June 2009. Annual Meeting of the AEF to be held in Frankfurt, Germany in October 2009, date not set yet.
