  2. Newfoundland & Labrador

  3. Confederation NFLD • The date that Newfoundland and Labrador entered Confederation was on March 31, 1949. • The leaders of Newfoundland & Labrador were Frederick Carter, J. Ambrose Shea, and Joseph (Joey) Smallwood.

  4. Confederation NFLD (2) • Newfoundland & Labrador disagreed with the idea of Confederation. • Newfoundland & Labrador decided to oppose Confederation in 1867, and joined in March, 1949. • Newfoundland opposed Confederation because they thought that the government would tax everything they had, including their fishing products, so they buried the idea of Confederation until 1949,. • Newfoundland joined in 1949 though, after realizing that they weren’t going to be taxed on everything.

  5. Ontario (Upper Canada)

Confederation ONT • Our province is Ontario/Upper Canada, and it entered confederation July 1, 1867. • When Ontario joined confederation, the leaders of it were William Lyon Mackenzie of the reform party and George Brown who was also in the reform party. • Not all people favored joining confederation, not all reformers wanted to join. Even conservatives favored confederation. • Ontario joined confederation in 1867 because Canadians wanted to become a nation because they didn’t want to be taken over by the U.S, & also to improve trade advantages.

Confederation • New Brunswick joined confederation in July 1, 1867. • The leaders of New Brunswick are Edward Chandler, Charles Fisher, John Hamilton Gray, John Johnson, Peter Mitchell, William Steeves, Samuel Tilley, & R.D. Wilmont • Yes they did join Confederation in 1867. Money and U.S invasion was Suspected and that’s what influenced there decision

  9. Nova Scotia Nova Scotia entered confederation July,1,1867. The leaders of our province were Robert Barry Dickey, Joseph Howe, William Alexander Henry.

  10. Nova Scotia 2 • The reasons why they joined in 1867 were because of the rail road, and so that the united colonies could share the cost,. • Poorer regions could benefit from the wealth of richer regions.

  11. Quebec Quebec entered confederation at July 1.1867. The leaders of Quebec are George Eteinee Chartier, Jean Charles Chapais, Hector Louis Langovlin.

  12. Quebec Cont. Quebec did join in 1867. The main reasons they joined confederation are because the U.S.A could attack them and alone they couldn’t fight them off so they decided to join confederation in 1867.

  13. Quebec Cont. Another reason Quebec joined confederation is because Quebec wanted their own governing system and their own rules, basically to break apart from Britian’s political rule.
