  1. Stop Bullying Now! Bullying: Exposing another person to either verbal or physical harm, or threatening to harm another person with the purpose of controlling the other person’s thoughts and/or actions.

  2. Describe a bully….. • Big • Mean • Loud • Overweight • Angry • Steals lunch money • Picks on the little kid • Trouble

  4. Bystander • Someone who sees the bullying taking place but does nothing about it • Just as bad as the bully! DON’T be a bystander!

  5. Types of Bullying • Physical • Verbal (name calling) • Peer pressure • Isolation • Cyberbullying

  6. Options: • 1) Stick up for victim • 2)Offer support later • 3) Tell an adult • 4) Questionthe bully later Advantages or disadvantages for each?

  7. Stick up for the person being bullied: Advantages: • Immediately stops the situation • Gives the bully a strong message Disadvantages: • Need to be brave • May be outnumbered • Bully might turn on you

  8. Offer support later on: Advantages: • Victim feels less isolated • You can ask how they want to handle it • Less risky for you Disadvantages: • Bully gets away with their actions • Slow response • Victim may have been hurt

  9. Tell an adult: Advantages: • They can investigate • No risk to you • Discrete • Can stop bullying for good Disadvantages: • If uses properly, there is little disadvantage

  10. Challenge the bully later: Advantages: • Might stop the bully • Less threatening if the bully isn’t in the middle of bullying • Strong message Disadvantages: • Tough to do • Need to be brave again • Could leave you isolated
