  3. PRESENTERS PRESENTATION OUTLINE INTRODUCTION VISION STATEMENTS FOR FIVE ORGANIZATIONS CRITICAL ANALYSIS AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT REFINED VISION IF ANY CONCLUSION

  4. INTRODUCTION VISION STATEMENT It is the desired future state of the organization, A vision statement involves thinking strategically about the firm’s future business plan and where to go.Its tasks include creating road map for the future and deciding future business position to stake out.It provide framework for strategic planning.

  5. A Vision statement expresses:- An ideal position of the organization in future or best possible outcome An openness to substantive change A goal worth stretching for The core elements of your strategy The change you want to see in the community /country you serve A narrative for why you will take action Emotions

  6. UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM (UNDP) UNDP is the United Nations' global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.

  7. UNDP GOAL They are on the ground in 177 countries and territories, working with governments and people on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. As they develop local capacity, they draw on the people of UNDP and our wide range of partners that can bring about results in Millennium development Goals.

  8. UNDP GOAL Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Achieve universal primary education Promote gender equality and empower women Reduce child mortality Improve maternal health Combat HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other diseases Ensure environmental sustainability Develop a global partnership fo

  9. WHO THEY SAVE? UNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively. In all our activities, we encourage the protection of human rights, Capacity development and the empowerment of women. The annual Human development Report, commissioned by UNDP, focuses the global debate on key development issues, providing new measurement tools, innovative analysis and often controversial policy proposals. The global Report's analytical framework and inclusive approach carry over into regional, national and local Human Development Reports, also supported by UNDP.

  10. VISION STATEMENT To provide good practice and operational guidance for adaptation, while working to accelerate learning

  11. CRITICAL ANALYSIS Its short and simple No use of ambiguity Well Understandable Shows the innovation and changes, in which the organization wants to save. It’s not specific,

  12. CRITICAL ANALYSIS Example; why good practice and not the best practice? Because it can be good to other country but not to our country culture. UNDP supports homosexuality, while for our country it’s against country’s law and culture. Therefore it should tell us which type of practices? So that, we can know if the practice are best for our country or not. Also when they say; working to accelerate learning, which type of learning? They could be specific on the type of learning to avoid the gape and unanswered question in the vision. The vision also it’s leaving unanswered question e.g. providing good practice, which good practice? As you can see now homosexuality can be good practice for other country while in Tanzania it’s against the country law and our culture.

  13. AREAS TO IMPROVE It should be concrete and specific; the use of … while working to accelerate learning. i.e. it should tell us which learning? Should be positive inspired. For example; use of the word best practice and not good’ practice. It should be surprisingly. Should tell us about the best practice and something on country’s culture It should be credible for country’s culture.

  14. REFINED NEW VISION. To provide the best developmental practice and empowerment in guidance for adaptionwhile working to accelerate learning in respect to specific country’s culture.

  15. OVERVIEWACTIONAID INTERNATIONAL • ActionAid is a large international development organisation with head office based in Africa, with offices in Asia and the Americas connecting our work in Europe. Head office is in Johannesburg. • It helps people use their own power to fight poverty and injustice. Because that’s how real change happens – for families, for communities, for whole societies. • ActionAid is changing. It is moving on from just fighting against poverty – to working for long lasting solutions to poverty.

  16. Where does ActionAid work? It currently work in over 50 countries worldwide, making a real, long-term difference. In many countries also run child sponsorship Wherever It work, It always make sure that programs are created in collaboration with local people, Often working very closely with partner organizations, to ensure that it is addressing the real root causes of poverty, rather than just alleviating the symptoms.

  17. Who they Serve People in poverty. People who face discrimination. People whose voices are ignored. It help people fight for the rights that they are denied. Simple things, like the right to eat. The right to stay on their land. To an education. To a say in the decisions that shape their lives. Listen to what people really want and need. We help communities take action together to hold their governments to account, and we give local organisations our support where they need it. Together, we’re making a lasting difference.

  18. What they do ActionAid work with and support the poorest and most vulnerable people to fight for and gain their rights to food, shelter, work, basic healthcare and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. Among them are widows, orphans, the homeless and disabled, people with HIV & AIDS, tribal peoples and religious minorities. We also champion poor people’s rights through international campaigns on food rights, HIV & AIDS and education. Working with more than 2,000 partners worldwide, Action Aid’s fight against poverty has reached has reached over 19 million people in Africa, Asia and the Americas. ACTIONAID focuses on 5 themes which are -: Agriculture and Food Security Governance

  19. What they do Women Rights Land right and Accountability HIV Aids Education Child Sponsorship

  20. VISION STATEMENT A world without poverty and injustice in which every person enjoys the right to a life with dignity.

  21. CRITICAL ANALYSIS • Generally, the vision statement for ActionAid is well formulated and meets most of the good qualities of mission statement as follows:- • It is in harmony with organizational strategy, mission and philosophy. • It shows the changes in which the organization want to see in the community in which it serve.(A world without Poverty and injustice) • It is a goal worth stretching for e.g it has a challenging goal of ensuring that the poor and excluded people and commmunities exercise power to secure their rights. • It is likely to inspire the employee in serving the community. • It is challenging and full of excitement as eradicating poverty is not a distant dream but one we can realistically achieve. • It is simple and its words are memorable

  22. AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT A world without poverty and injustice is unrealistic to achieve .Poverty is very broad term due to its magnitude from one country to another. As an Organisation need to emphasize on people’s actions and commitment in eradicating poverty and injustice.

  23. REFINED VISION STATEMENT People’s actions and commitment to end poverty and injustice in which every person in the world enjoys the right of life with dignity.

  24. LOCAL GOVERMENT TRAINING INSTITUTE The Local Government Training Institute (LGTI) was established by Act of Parliament No.26 of 1994 asa body corporate. The Institute was established to serve as a practical-oriented professional centre fordemand-driven training, research, advisory and consultancy services in the fields of Local GovernmentFinance, Administration and Management. As such, the Institute falls under the subject sector ofBusiness and Management. The said subject sector includes Accountancy; Financial Management, Materials Management, Human Resource Management, Project Planning, Law and related fields.

  25. Vision To become a centre of excellence in the provision of technical training in Local Government Administration, Finance and Management.

  26. Critical Analysis Generally, it is a good formulated vision statement since it meets most of the qualities .e.g. It is concrete and specific due to the fact that it deals with provision of technical training specifically for the local government. It provides ideal position in the future that is to become a ‘Centre of excellence’ It motivates members of organization to perform beyond their capacity The vision statement is challenging .e.g. ‘To become a Centre of excellence in provision of technical training’ is not an easy task .

  27. Areas to improve: • The vision does not provide goal wealth stretching for the organization since it does not tell specific coverage of being Centre of excellence .e.g. Country wise, regional or international • The vision does not tell on how the institute will overcome dramatically changes occurring within the dynamic world. • It is also silent in innovative factors; that is being excellence Centre you need to be innovative in knowledge provision so as to meet global challenges.

  28. Proposed refined vision statement To become a Centre of excellence internationally in accordance to dynamic world through innovative provision of technical training in local government, administration, finance and management.

  29. TANZANIA REVENUE AUTHORITY The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is a semi-autonomous agency of the government of United Republic of Tanzania charged with responsibility of managing the assessment, collection and accounting of all central government revenue. TRA operates under the Ministry of Finance.

  30. VISION To Become a Modern Tax Administration’ To become a Modern Tax Administration is best described through the following features; Revenue collection targets are met consistently, delivery of service that meets customer expectations, Fair and consistent application of tax laws, skilled and qualified staff with high levels of integrity.

  31. Critical Analysis: • TRA vision statement meets some qualities of a good vision statement such as:- • Focuses the future: • It describes what the organization wants to achieve in the future • Easy to read and understand as there are no jargon and buzz words , therefore is easier to remember • Describes a preferred and meaningful future state to readers that motivate members within and outside the organization. • Challenging • Looking on the environment the vision is challenging as TRA need to meet revenue collection targets consistently, delivery of service that meets customer expectations, fair and consistent application of tax laws, skilled and qualified staff with high levels of integrity.

  32. Area of improvement • Therefore, TRA vision • Being modern the vision has to be clear on how to couple with global challenges e.g. technological changes which occurs frequently • The vision is silent on innovative factor .e.g. how they will improve their procedures in tax collection and management • The vision is silent on their service provision to meet customer satisfaction .e.g. it seems TRA concentrates much on increasing revenue collection. • The vision does not tell on how to impart knowledge and skills to customers and employees in taxation so that taxpayers can be compliant and employees to in managing tax.

  33. Proposed refined TRA vision statement To be a modern tax administration for the best practice and innovative professionalism, integrity and fairness’

Only then will be thought of as exciting, innovation, on their side and a truly world class company”

  37. CRITICAL ANALYSIS • Accordingly, the vision statement for Airtel Tanzania is well formulated and meets most of the good qualities of mission statement as follows:-  • It is a goal worth streching for i.e Aitel is driven by the vision of making mobile communications available for all community.  • It has a challenging vision statement which has to be riviwed every after 5years by ensuring the whole community(rural and urban) will will be able to communicate through extending its networks . • It shows the changes in which the organization want to see in the community in which it serve.(That is to most lovely brand) • It is likely to inspire the telecomunication customers by ensuring communication network is accessible all the time.

  38. Areas of improvements. -To become the most lovely brand in the Airtel vision is too general that the should specify areas in which they will be loved. i.e In terms of price, coverage or services -Also enriching lives of millions means it can not reach the whole communities which shows the gap to the other telecom operating companies as competitors REFINING AIRTEL VISION STATEMENTS. “To become the most lovely brand by 2015 in providing excellent services, innovative, availability and affordability”

  39. Conclusion Vision Statement must be communicated to its employees, stakeholders and the world at large .It should be well defined to reflect the organization strategy. It must be regularly reviewed due to environmental changes.
