Narrative A story that relates a series of events to the audience or listener in a sequence of pictures, written or spoken word Some examples of narrative writing include: • Non-fiction • History books, biographies, autobiographies, news • “Based on” stories, or fictionalized accounts • Myths, legends, anecdotes, docu-dramas • Fiction • Novels, poems, short stories • Other media • Film, photography, songs, speech, writing

13. Autobiographical Writing Tells the story of an event or person in the writer’s life. Some examples of autobiographical writing include: • Personal Narratives– autobiographical incidents • Tell the story of a specific event in your life • Sketches– autobiographical narratives • Describe a time or group of events in your life, offering insight into them • Reflective Essays • Recount an experience and give your thoughts on its meaning • Memoirs • Are the true story of your relationship with a person, place, or animal, including your thoughts and feelings

Prewriting • Remember you are writing something true about yourself! • You can pick a single event/time in your life that you remember or a group of events/time in your life • You could write about someone or something important to you and how you feel about that • You could also write about an experience in your life
