  4. Good Autobiographical Writing… • does not rely on an exciting life • is based on an ordinary event to which readers can relate • is told vividly, but is not fantastical

  5. The “Problem” of Autobiographical Writing • Old self vs. new self • Old view of person X vs. new view of person X • Old values vs. new values which threaten, disrupt, challenge old views Freewrite for 10 minutes on any of these three!

  6. Find the Tension Summarize your freewriting in one sentence. This sentence should allude to the tension that will be in the story.

  7. Plot • in medias res • level of detail • pacing of details
