  1. The Second Tuesdaywe talk about feeling sorryfor yourself 簡阿麒陳YAO霖戴凡凡郭小黑 SAN蔡

  2. Events Mitch goes to Morries’ house > brought food for Morrie > Notices Morries’ physical conditions > asked if Morrie feels sorry for himself > Morrie says he is lucky > Morrie goes to washroom, Mitch reads newspaper> Mitch offers to lift Morrie up from his recliner> Mitch realizes Morrie does not have much time left.

  3. What’s the lesson here The virtue of waiting Life Love Compassion, “and why the society has such a shortage of it” Why feel sorry, when you are so lucky to be alive

  4. Mitch’s Mentality - “I came back the next Tuesday” - “looked forward to these visits” p.55 By learning lessons from his mentor, Mitch hopes to transform his meaningless lifestyle.

  5. Mitch - “I no longer rented a cellular phone for the rides from the airport”- “let them wait” p.55 Perhaps it is due to the newspaper strike, Mitch has more time to do his own things. Moreover, Mitch is no longer obsessed with his work. He is more observant of the things around him.

  6. Mitch - “figured [Morrie] must like the food there…”- “I looked for signs of the disease’s progression” p. 56 Mitch has learned to care. He brings food when he comes to visit because he thinks Morrie might like them. He is also concerned with Morrie’s physical well-being. Overall, Mitch has becoming more compassionate.

  7. Morrie’s Condition

  8. Morrie’s Condition - “his fingers worked well enough to write…but he could not lift his arms much higher than his chest”- “pieces of rubber…held his feet and gave support to his withered legs”- “he would shake the bell and Connie, Tony, Bertha, or Amy… would come in.” p.56

  9. Morrie’s Condition Morrie’s health is not looking very well. Yet he considers himself “lucky”

  10. How does Morrie deal with it (being sorry) Catharsis – give a good cry if needed concentrate on the good thing – people, family, friends He connects with the people around him and shares his love

  11. What has Mitch learned He leafs through the newspaper and find the stories trivial and meaningless. There are more important things in the world. “no news is good news” He is more compassionate and he offers to help lifting Morrie form his recliner. Mitch knows his mentor will not live for long“I had to do something”

  12. Junior year 1978 Mitch remembers playing the backward fall and catch game. “sometimes you cannot believe what you see, you have to believe what you feel.” p.61 “if you are ever going to have other people trust you, you must feel that you can trust them, too” This can be applied to doctor-patient relations

  13. Self-reflection In this Tuesday, Morrie teached us about feeling sorry for ourselves. If we spend time only self-pity, we would find it difficult to make anything well-done. As a result, we should always look on the blight side of our life. In fact, what matters is in what way we see the terrible things. What we should pay more attention to is things worthy. For example, we are happy to have Tuesdays with Joyse and Thursdays with Peggy!
