Whatis the purpose of these sessions? • Protectededucation time • To help giveyou a structure for covering the GP curriculum • To help youprepare for the AKT • To help youprepare for being a GP • To help youunderstand the challenges of general practice • To facilitatepeer & pastoral support • To giveyou time to reflect & learn

  4. The teaching programme runs from September to June with some breaks in the programme at Christmas and Easter You have protected study time on a Tuesday afternoon even when the sessions are not running

  5. The Path to Certification (CCT) You need: To Pass a KNOWLEDGE exam(AKT) To be able to COMMUNICATE and DEMONSTRATE KNOWLEDGE and CLINICALMANAGEMENT(CSA exam) To FUNCTION as a GP in a GP SETTING (WPBA, MSF, PSQ, Audit, DOPS ….) and document acheivement of skills, competencies and curriculum coverage in the eportfolio

  7. THE AKT EXAM 3 hours (and 10 minutes from Oct 14) 200 Questions Pearson Vue Driving Test Centre 80% clinical medicine 10% critical appraisal and evidence based clinical practice 10% health informatics & administrative issues

  8. “ The AKT assesses higher order problem solving rather than just the simple recall of basic facts.”

  9. Consider asking other trainees how they prepared – what websites or other resources? (Bearing in mind that different people learn in different ways)

  10. AKT DATES • Look on the College website and FAQ document • Apply via the College website. • Most sit in April/May but when you do it is up to you. Maximum 4 attempts (from 1/8/10). £477 (AiT rate) • Discuss with your Educational Supervisor

  13. ST2 TEACHING PROGRAMME CONTENT The GP Curriculum Centred mainly around clinical topics Real-life examples from GP Practical problem solving Learner involvement in planning the content Outside speakers (mainly GPs)

  14. The next ST2 Education Session is on 16th September at 2pm in Seminar Room 2
