  2. What is a Region? A region is a large area whose parts have something in common, such as natural resources, land forms, industries or population.

  3. Other Words for Regions may be: area district center territory

  4. Population Regions- • Population regions are areas where there are large settlements of people. Some examples of population regions in Texas are Dallas/Fort Worth, Houston, Austin and El Paso.

  5. Can you name some major Population Regions in the United States? • (Hint) Think about names of big cities you have heard about in the United States.

  6. Population Regions in the United States • Look at these large population areas in the United States. Do you recognize them?

  7. Political Regions- • Political regions are areas separated into voting locations – usually by county on a state level • What county do YOU live in?

  8. You live in Tarrant County, so your parents vote for Tarrant County representatives and issues.

  9. Political Regions of the U.S. • Political regions in the United States are typically separated by state.

  10. You live in the state of Texas, so your parents vote for Texas representatives and issues within the state.

  11. Economic (or Geographic) Regions- • Economic regions are areas separated by the industries located in those areas. They are also called Geographic regions because the geography of each region affects the industries created there.

  13. Gulf Coast Region • Yes! The Gulf Coast Region would have fishing and shipping industries because it is located on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico.

  15. Plains and Hill Country Regions • Yes! The plains of Texas are perfect for cattle ranching. They have large, flat areas of land with plenty of grass for cows to graze on.
