Scope of the Austrian ENUM Trials • Provisioning for +43 and +87810 • Provide a DNS based infrastructure in ENUM Tier 1 and ENUM Tier 2 • Basic administration and validation including the necessary provisioning processes • by ENUM registrars (ENUM Service Providers) • an ENUM Tier 1 registry • Web-Portal for registration of ENUM subscribers and for simple manipulations of the DNS NAPTR records in ENUM Tier 2 Richard Stastny
Scope of the Austrian ENUM Trials • Applications • ENUM client-SW for ENUM users to query the ENUM database • Generic clients • ENUM enabled application clients • ENUM enabled servers • VoIP applications for ENUM subscribers and users (sip and h323) • Evaluation of the services provided and of the user feedback • Monitoring of and interworking with other trials • Evaluation of standards and feedback to the relevant bodies • The first phase of Austrian and VISIONng trials have been feasability studies • Purpose: find out first products and then markets Richard Stastny

Current findings • VoIP is now taking off (xDSL, cable, WiFi) • The primary ENUM service is VoIP • in conjunction with IP phones and terminal adapters • but: ENUM and VoIP for residential customers has yet to overcome Metcalfe's law (n2 - n) • most beneficial in corporate (private) environment • as replacement of existing PBX or Centrex solutions • preserving the existing dialing plan • Corporate solutions as inroad for • other services • home workers, road warriors Richard Stastny
