  1. The RoadBlade Vehicle Arresting System

  2. What is the RoadBlade? The RoadBlade is a tyre shredding system providing an effective method of perimeter security against hostile vehicles. For use in temporary or permanent installations including: gates, temporary entrances and traffic control zones. The retractable blades slice each tyre instantly deflating them and putting the vehicle on it’s rims immediately.

  3. Who uses the RoadBlade? The RoadBlade systems are currently used by all major branches of the military in Iraq and Afghanistan, shipping ports, airports, government and presidential buildings, oil refineries, border control points, embassies, and just about anywhere that needs to be protected from hostile vehicle penetration.

  4. 4 Systems – 1 Objective There are 4 different RoadBlade systems, each having it’s own benefits which make them unique to one another. They are: The Manual RoadBlade (MRB) The DC Portable RoadBlade (DCPRB) The Maximum Security RoadBlade (MSRB) The Permanent RoadBlade (PRB). Each system is designed to maintain a safe and secure perimeter.

  5. Manual RoadBlade (MRB) The Manual RoadBlade (MRB) System is designed to be used in temporary traffic control situations. It requires no power source, therefore, it is ideal for remote locations where power is unavailable or there are frequent power failures. The blades are activated using a foot pedal located on the manual control box. The blades can be locked in either the up or down position, allowing the user to move away from the system.

  6. Manual RoadBlade (MRB) The MRB Package Contains: 1 – Manual Control Box 7 – 50.8cm/20 in Modules 1 – Portable Case Benefits: • Hands free activation. • Requires no electricity. • Operator maintains eye contact with approaching traffic. • Operator is not in an exposed, crouched position. • Capable of withstanding multiple threat vehicles. • Immediate deactivation after use.

  7. DC Portable RoadBlade (DCPRB) The DC Portable RoadBlade can be used in temporary situations where remote activation is needed. This system allows for the minimum number of personnel to have extra security assistance for their perimeter. The rechargeable portable power supply allows the RoadBlade system to operate in remote locations or in short-term permanent locations where there is access to an AC outlet.

  8. DC Portable RoadBlade (DCPRB) The system can be activated from two devices: the pendant control cable, which attaches directly to the control box, and a wireless remote that allows the user to move freely from the system. The DCPRB Package Contains: 1 – Control box 1 – Wireless remote control 1 – Portable power supply 1 – DC Neoprene power cable 1 – AC Neoprene power cable 1 – Pendant control 7 – 20 Inch (50.8cm) Modules with Traction Spikes 2 – Portable cases

  9. Max. Security RoadBlade (MSRB) The Maximum Security RoadBlade is designed for use in both mobile and permanent surface deployments, providing rugged and dependable performance for your perimeter security needs. The MSRB includes everything for manual or electronic operation. It is an excellent solution for quick deployments or for installations that are planning to change their access roads.

  10. Max. Security RoadBlade (MSRB) The MSRB provides detachments or installations a complete vehicle access control package whether it is used on the base or during field operations. The MSRB Package Contains: 1 – AC Neoprene power cable 1 – DC Neoprene power cable 1 – Daisy chain cable 1 – Portable power supply 1 – Remote logic box 1 – Actuator box 1 – Manual control box 1 – Wireless remote control 1 – Power connection cable 1 – Control connection cable 7 – 20 Inch (50.8 cm) modules with traction spikes 2 – Portable cases

  11. Permanent RoadBlade (PRB) The Permanent RoadBlade system (PRB) is the complete facility security system that can either stand alone or integrate with other co-located security features. With the addition of the prefabricated trench, arm extension, and a Pole Mount box, the PRB installs and functions much easier and can also be incorporated with existing security systems such as, arm barriers, roadblockers and card scanners.

  12. Permanent RoadBlade (PRB) The PRB is an excellent option to provide your location with the security it needs, but does not act as a hindrance to your personnel. The PRB Package Contains: 1 – Actuator box 1 – Manual control box 1 – Power connection cable 1 – Control connection cable 1 – Arm extension 5 – Prefabricated trenches 1 – Pole Mount box 7 – 20 Inch (50.8 cm) cut modules

  13. Key Features Stainless steel retractable blades - 5-7cm/2-3 in gashes cause immediate deflation, placing the vehicle on it’s rims. In it’s inactive state, blades down, vehicles can safely pass over the RoadBlade system in either direction. Modular system – The standard length for any RoadBlade system is 4.17m/12ft. They can be extended up to 7.62m/25ft. Two systems have the capacity of 15.24m/50ft of uninterrupted security. Heavy duty – The individual RoadBlade modules are designed to withstand over 50,000kg/50 tons of force, enabling the system to handle heavy vehicles and high traffic volumes. Adaptable – The RoadBlade system can be integrated with devices such as, computer control, card scanners, weight sensors, arm barriers or most types of devices that have access to dry contact connections.

  14. How is the RoadBlade activated? The RoadBlade can be activated in several different ways. The first is the manual control box. The blades are raised and lowered using the activation lever on the control box.

  15. How is the RoadBlade activated? The two button pendant comes standard with MSRB and has two activation buttons. To raise the blades, press the red button. To lower the blades, press the green button.

  16. How is the RoadBlade activated? The three button pendant has one black push button comes standard with the DC Portable RoadBlade System. To active the blades, push the button one and the red indicator light will illuminate. Press the button again, and the blades will go down and the green light will illuminate.

  17. How is the RoadBlade activated? Wireless Remote Control It can be added without any extra tools to the receptacle on either pendant control. This gives the operator the ability to activate the system using two different methods. The user can move away from the system up to a distance of 60m/200 feet.

  18. Permanent Surface Installations A flat concrete pad is the recommended mounting surface for permanent surface installations. However, the system is designed to handle slight variations in the road surface should a concrete pad be unavailable.

  19. Permanent Flush Installations Permanent flush RoadBlade installations do not hinder everyday traffic flow and are ideal for where snow plows, for example, are an issue. They go unnoticed until the blades are activated. Using our prefabricated trenches makes the installation process easier. Each trench holds two cut modules. Five trenches are included in the Permanent RoadBlade system.

  20. Prefabricated Trench To install the prefabricated trenches, follow these four steps known as the puddle method. Step 1:Cut the necessary length for the trench. Place a puddle of concrete under both ends of each trench.

  21. Prefabricated Trench Step 2: Align the trenches to form a straight line, making sure the rails are even.

  22. Prefabricated Trench Step 3: Place protective wood inside of the trenches to prevent concrete from getting inside of the trench during the pouring process.

  23. Prefabricated Trench Step 4: After pouring and vibration of concrete, trowel the concrete so that it slopes down to the top of the rail. An 3mm/ 1/8” slope is desired. This prevents snow plows from gabbing the rail and damaging the trench. After concrete dries, install the RoadBlade modules.

  24. Portable Deployments The portable RoadBlade system is used when a permanent system is not required. Anchor plates can be used to mount the system to the road surface. They are designed to be used on most road surfaces except for concrete. The teeth on each plate grabs the road surface, preventing the modules from moving when a vehicle runs over the system.

  25. Portable Deployments An alternative to the anchor plate is our new traction spikes. They are also used to hold the modules in position when the RoadBlade is being used for a portable or temporary deployment. Twenty spikes screw into the bottom of each module. They are replaceable and can be removed should the system be used in a permanent deployment.
