  1. Career: Organic NanoparticlesEdward R. Van Keuren, Georgetown University, DMR 0348955 We have been carrying out fundamental studies of the nucleation and growth of organic nanocrystals. By freeze-drying samples of nucleating nanocrystals at different stages of their growth and imaging with SEM, we can monitor how their structures evolve with time. In samples of the electron acceptor tetracyano-p-quinodimethane (TCNQ) we have observed a wide variety of unusual structures, as shown in the images on the right.

  2. Career: Organic NanoparticlesEdward R. Van Keuren, Georgetown University, DMR 0348955 Over the past year, three graduate, four undergraduate and one high school students participated in research projects in the PIs lab involving organic nanoparticles. They receive training in synthetic methods as well as advanced characterization methods and optics. The photos on the left show some of these students at work. Top: an undergraduate prepares a sample of nanocrystals; Middle: a graduate student developing a fiber optic characterization instrument; Bottom: a high school student measures diffusion coefficients.
