  1. CHEMICAL BIOLOGICAL PROTECTIVE SHELTER for NGAUS CS/CSS TASK FORCE 6 AUG 2013  BY TOM BROWN,  DIRECTOR, BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

  2. Smiths Detection: overview Smiths Detection is: The world leader in the provision of Government regulated systems to detect and identify CBRNE materials - more than double the size of its nearest competitor. A prime contractor with 85% of sales to more than 100 governments globally • Market leadership based on delivery of more than: • 70,000 X-ray inspection systems • 275,000 chemical agent detectors • 23,000 explosives trace detectors OurMission: The world’s leading provider of advanced technologies to identify constantly evolving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive (CBRNE) threats. Equipping our customers with high integrity solutions to safeguard society, protect life and support the free flow of trade.

  3. Edgewood, MD Production HI-SCAN™6040aTix Advanced checkpoint security system for automatic explosives detection HI-SCAN™6040i Non-intrusive inspection system for parcels & baggage SmartBio™Sensor Real-time field portable biological warfare agent detector JCAD Lightweight chemical detectors for chemical warfare agent and toxic industrial chemical detection CBPS-M8E1 Mobile, hospital and collective protective shelter from chemical and biological threats.

  4. Chemical Biological Protective Shelter (CBPS)…is a self contained, mobile medical unit that is a rapidly deployable collective protection system designed to operate in the forward battle area. Chemical Biological Protective Shelter (CBPS) – M8E1

  5. Chemical and Biological Protective Shelter Benefits • Onboard primary and backup power generators • Digital touch-screen-operated control system • Compatible with JCAD, ACADA, or M8A1 chemical agent detectors • Environmentally controlled sustained operation (constant temperature) • Fabric shelter resistant to chem/bio agents for up to 5 exposures/decontaminations • Systems are capable of being linked together to form complexes of protected, environmentally controlled medical operations • Dual-use system that can support response to natural disasters in the homeland and also as a command and control center Four CBPSs linked together at FOT in Ft. Drum, NY (above)

  6. With CBPS - Medical Component Key Points for CBPS deployment • Automatic CB protection in case of wider contamination • Strike/Erect in 20 minutes • Mobile, self contained • Heating/AC • Easily linked with other CBPS systems • Surgical capabilities • Self contained power generation • 33 medical chests on a self contained platform

  7. CBPS M8E1

  8. With CBPS - Set up (4 personnel)

  9. Echelon I and II medical treatment 400 sqft for treating patients 33 standard medical chests instead of 14 in legacy system Mobility allows for greater flexibility in ensuring there is no impact to mission-Saving lives Clean environment! CBPS-Provides a mobile medical capability for lifesaving care Example U.S. Soldiers with the 67th Forward Surgical Team (FST) start medical treatment on a simulated wounded Soldier during a medical exercise Feb. 16, 2011, in Miesau, Germany.

  10. National Guard and CBPS • The Army National Guard has a requirement for 285+ Chemical Biological Protective Shelters (CBPS).(Requirement set by G8 and National Guard Materiel Programs Division ARNG-RMQ) • VA,MD, DC (National Capital Region), AL, IL have all expressed interest in CBPS. • Critical dual use equipment which can be deployed during natural disasters or WMD events. National Guard Urgent Need… Alabama Tornado - May 2011 Missouri Tornado - May 2011

  11. CBPS Production • Smiths has a contract to build 111 Systems • To date, 28 systems have been delivered • Smiths also has a contract to deliver $5.4M of Spares by 4QFY13

  14. Summary • The chemical and biological threat is real - Iran, Libya, Syria. • The National Guard needs dual-use medical WMD gear with flexibility to respond to natural disasters. The National Capital Region (NCR) states (to include Maryland) are on the record requesting this equipment. • Industry has made $9 million in investments to prepare for CBPS production. Over 11 states support this program impacting 157 employees directly to include small business, woman owned, and veteran owned. • Industry is in production. To date, Smiths has delivered 38systems. • The need is great for this system and we are ramping up production. • Production will be gapped in August 2014.
