  4. Objectives • To bring awareness, understanding, and discussion about global conflicts to the classroom. • For students to analyze political influence in decisions about global conflicts. • To understand the role of the United States in global conflicts.

  5. Materials Projector/ DVD/ Surround Sound Computer Lab

  6. Day 1: “The Devil Came on Horseback” • To provide an eye-witness account of the history and atrocities taking place in Darfur, show the documentary “The Devil Came on Horseback” • DISCLAIMER: This is intended for MATURE audiences only due to graphic violence.

  7. Day 2: Computer Lab Independent Research • Questions to Research: • What is the UN’s role in genocide? Their definition of genocide? • What measures has the US taken regarding this? What do you think the US is obligated to do? • What is the African Union’s role in Darfur? • Are there solutions proposed to solve/end this conflict? • What other acts of genocide can you compare Darfur with?

  8. Day 3: Discussion & Role Play • Assign students to one of the following roles: • Conduct a roundtable conference between the parties to either: • HOMEWORK: • Have students write 1-2 pages answering this question, “Considering that multiple
