  1. The Human Person Who are you and who are you becoming?

  2. Goal • By the end of the unit, the student should be able • To articulate what it is to be a human person • by his own definition • by the definition of Renee Descartes • by the definition of the Catholic Church. • List and describe his core beliefs

  3. Personal Philosophies

  4. Personal Philosophies • “Life is like a box of chocolates.” • “Greed is right, greed works. Greed, in all of its forms has marked the upward surge of mankind.” • “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” • “I don't feel I have to wipe everybody out, Tom. Just my enemies.” • "A man that doesn't spend time with his family can never be a real man."

  5. Personal Philosophies • “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view…until you climb inside of his skin and walk around in it.” • “It doesn’t take much to see that the problems of three little people don’t amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world.” • “There’s no place like home.” • “In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun.” • “You gotta make the money first. Then when you get the money, you get the power. When you get the power, you get the women.”

  6. Personal Philosophies • “HakunaMatata.” • “Do it to him before he does it to you.” • “Every man dies, not every man really lives.” • “Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary." • "You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive. You're not the contents of your wallet. You're not your $%@&!% khakis. You're the all-singing, all-dancing crap of the world."

  7. Personal Philosophies • “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” • “Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” • “People don’t belong to people.” • “Look, in my opinion, the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what have you, the right person is still going to think the sun shines out your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with.” • “The Dude abides.”

  8. Personal Philosophies • “No one gives it to you. You have to take it.” • “Life’s a garden. Dig it.” • “Frankly, my dear. I don’t give a damn.” • “There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.” • “It’s not that I’m lazy, it’s just that I don’t care.”

  9. Personal Activity • Rank these quotes according to how they apply to your life, 1-25. • In small group, share with your peers your top 3 and bottom 3.
