  2. How it Occurred? The oil spill started in the Gulf of Mexico. The oil spill happened on April 20, 2010. It started with a swamp gas leak which caused an oil rig to explode. This let all of the gas in the water on the Gulf of Mexico near Louisiana. This is the one of the worst eco disasters in the world. The explosion killed eleven people working. This oil spill flowed in the water for three month polluting the water. This also affected the people at the beach because they could not swim. They could not swim because the water is bad for their bodies and could harm them. This harmed many things. That is how the oil spill happened.

  3. HOW ARE THEY STOPPING THE OIL LEAK? • They tried to stop the oil spill by building a well to intercept the oil pipe which will stop the oil spill. The well will capture all the oil going into the water and ruining the environment. They created a new oil rig for drilling and is going to take three months to build. That is what they did to stop the oil from leaking more into the water on the Gulf of Mexico.

  4. HOW THEY CLEANED UP THE OIL SPILL • Some of the techniques they used to clean up the BP oil spill is pouring a lot of chemical dispersants in the water to break up the heavy oils. They also used oil skimmers for some of the oil that sits on top of the water, it separates the oil and it is sucked away. They also used booms and barriers to stop the oil from spreading all over the water. They were using cloths that absorb just oil without water before they reach marshes. They are also burning the oil in small areas where there is oil. That is how they cleaned up the BP oil spill.

  5. How does it impact the environment? • This oil spill impacts the environment because the environment becomes polluted. The animals in the environment are covered in oil which could possibly kill them and birds cant fly. It affects fish because they are also covered in oil. It affects the people at the beach because they cant swim because of the oil polluted water. If the oil burns it pollutes the air and plants are also covered in oil and they die and cant grow. This is also an economical issue because it takes a lot of money from the government to clean up the oil spill. This is how the oil spill impacts on the environment.

  6. HOW DOES THE PROJECT RELATE TO HEALTH AND SOCIALEDUCATION? • The BP oil spill connects to Health and Social Education because the health for every living thing because of the air, animals, and water pollution. It also connects to Health and Social Education because they found new methods for stopping oil spills. That is how it connects to Health and Social Education.
