  26. Every Saturday, all over the UK, you can see loads of teenagers in shopping centres and town centres. But are they actually shopping? No, they’re window shopping or simply hanging out with their mates. They have a laugh, they watch people and look at the latest trends in clothes and music. They don’t normally buy anything, because they don’t have enough money. Why are shopping centres the new place to hang out? Probably because young people don’t have other places to go or they don’t have other ideas on how to spend their free time. How do you spend your Saturdays?

  27. Possible answers Shoe shop – trainers, sandals Clothes shop – jeans, shorts, T-shirts, cap Sports shop – rucksack Health and beauty shop – sun cream, bubble bath, soap Bookshop – guide book, phrase book, mini dictionary Travel agency – ticket

  28. Audio script and answers C 1.16 There are over 40,000 shops in London and more than (1) 26 large street markets. Most shops open at (2) 9.00 a.m. and close at (3) 5.30 p.m. Some big shops in the centre of London close later. They don’t normally close for lunch. There are (4) 300 different departments in Harrod’s and one of the most famous is the food hall. But you can’t take (5) photos. The biggest toy shop in London is Hamley’s. There are (6) 7 floors with everything from traditional toys to high-tech (7) computer games and robots. Covent Garden is now famous for its cafés, small shops and street artists. But in the past, it was a big (8) fruit and (9) vegetable market. To find cheap prices and good discounts, go to the January Sales. But remember they usually start at the end of (10) December and some people sleep in front of the stores to be the first shopper!

  29. Possible answers I’ll visit the food hall. I’ll buy some sausages. I’ll go to the music shop. I’ll buy her a pair of flip flops.
