Test Taking Strategies For Success on the EOCT.
Preparation • It is important to prepare for a test in advance. Nothing good comes from simply “winging” anything that you do. • Practice • Practice tests and review is the best way to prepare. • Studying over long periods is more effective than cramming the night before a test.
Preparation • Get a good night’s sleep before the test. Pulling an all-nighter studying will only hurt your performance. • Eat a good breakfast the morning of the test. Avoid eating sugary foods. High-protein foods like scrambled eggs are often best for aiding concentration and minimizing fatigue. • Wear comfortable clothing.
During the test • Don’t panic. • Take your time. • Use the restroom if you have to. A full bladder will only distract your concentration. • Don’t worry about other people being finished before you. Everyone tests differently. Just because someone’s finished first doesn’t mean that the test was easy for them.

Mark any questions with content you recognize with a plus (+) next to the number.
RATER Method • Take: • Take your time reading passages. Always be mindful of the directions and the questions that correspond with the passage. • Eliminate: • Eliminate the easiest questions (+) by answering them. Eliminate outlandish answers from difficult questions (-). • React and Review: • React with your instincts if struggling. If you feel in your gut that an answer is right, it probably is. If time, Review
