  3. Buspro system is a home/building automation system developed by HDL, can be usedto control lighting, blinds, HVAC, TV, background music, home theatre devices, security, irrigation, power metering, etc. The hall of HDL Show Room

  4. Ethernet Gateway Home solutions Lighting solutions

  5. Busproport 1. Use KNX standard cable or CAT5 (or above) 2. Baud rate: 9600bps 3. Max. length of a Subnet: 1200m 4. Bus voltage: 24VDC Voltage drop acceptance: Magnetic latching relay requires bus voltage >15VDC ; other devices require bus voltage >8VDC; the max. voltage is 30VDC. 5. Buspro MAC layer mechanism: CSMA/CD Buspro port, the connector has D+, D-, COM and +24V.

  6. Cable KNX standard cable is recommended, diameter=0.8mm, 2.7ohms/ 100m. (5 ohms/100m for typical Cat 5e cable, lower resistance means less voltage drop and less bus power wasted along the cable) When general Ethernet cable is used, untwist the pairs and re-twist them according to the following rules will help to enhance interference compatibility. New pairs DC24V : orange solid + brown solid COM : orange/white stripe + brown/white stripe DATA-: blue/white stripe + green/white stripe DATA+: blue solid + green solid Original pairs

  7. 24VDC Power Supply … 0/2 0/63 0/0 0/1 Systemtopology System capacity : 255 x 64 =16,320 … 24VDC Power Supply … 254/2 254/63 254/1 254/0 Ethernet Switch Every device has Subnet ID and Device ID except the Power Supply module, e.g., 1/2 means the Subnet ID = 1, Device ID = 2, the combination makes each device unique in the whole network.

  8. 0/0 0/1 0/2 Power Supply Systemtopology Ring topology is not allowed Ring topology is not allowed. If two subnets are connected together via bus cable as below, when a command is generated, it will be circulated in the Ring forever, the overloaded traffic will fail the system. Power Supply 1/1 1/3 1/2

  9. DeviceN Device1 Device2 Device3 1 1 Device1 Device3 2 2 3 3 4 4 1 4 1 2 3 2 3 2 3 4 4 4 1 4 3 3 2 2 1 1 1 2 3 4 Device2 Systemtopology Recommended wiring - Hand in hand Star structure – not recommended in large network like building automation where one subnet cable can be as long as up to 1km. Simpler cabling produces less signal reflection, results in higher SNR (signal noise ratio).

  10. Power Supply Power Supply Systemtopology … … When one Power Supply module is not enough, need to connect more Power Supply modules to the Subnet, but the +24 should not connect together. (Because for any reason if one Power Supply module fails, the other will be overloaded.) When one Power Supply module is enough, but just to want to add more Power Supply modules to enhance robustness, then keep them far away from each other will help to distribute the burden. (voltage drop along the cable)

  11. Currentconsumption Sum up current consumption of all devices in the same Subnet to select suitable Power Supply module. Current consumption of Some typical devices: User panel: HDL-MPL8.48, 30mA; HDL-MPT4.48, 20mA; Sensor: HDL-MSP02.4C, 12mA; Dimmer: HDL-MD0602.432, 28mA Two available Power Supply modules SB-DN-PS750 (750mA ) SB-DN-PS2.4A (2.4A ) Product catalog More current consumption info of other devices can be found in Product Catalog or Datasheet.

  12. 24VDC Power Supply … 0/2 0/63 0/0 0/1 P2Pandbroadcast P2P and broadcast happen in a very typical example as follows. Suppose both first keys of panel 0/2 and 254/2 are preconfigured to control one single channel of the dimmer 254/1. When the first key of 254/2 is pressed, a P2P command is sent to 254/1, the dimmer execute the command and feedback its new status in a broadcast way, both panels receive the status feedback and update their key status, the led of both first keys lit on. … … 24VDC Power Supply 254/2 254/63 254/1 254/0 Ethernet Switch

  13. 0/2 0/63 0/0 0/1 Routingrules Buspro IP modules have two simple routing rules Rule 1: Outbound (from Buspro to Ethernet): No filter Rule 2: Inbound (from Ethernet to Buspro): Only the Subnet ID of controlled device matches the Subnet ID of IP modules, the command will be allowed to be transferred in. E.g., If a panel 0/2 is pre-configured to trigger dimmer 254/1 and it is pressed, the trigger command will be transferred to Ethernet because of Rule 1, and the trigger command will be received by all online IP modules because Buspro Ethernet protocol utilizes UDP broadcast (if we link a PC to the Ethernet Switch, HBST will also receive the trigger command), but only the IP module 254/0 will transfer the trigger command to Buspro port because Rule2 … … 254/2 254/63 254/0 254/1 Ethernet Switch

  14. HBST • HBST, HDL Buspro Setup Tool, is a windows based online configuration tool software for Buspro products. To configure, simply scan the online devices and select a specific device to configure. • Functionalities: • Scan online devices, locally or remotely. • Check the device firmware version. • Upgrade online device if needed. • Configure the device one by one. • Backup the configuration one by one if needed. • Export the searched online device list if needed. • Restore configuration file to online device if needed. • Monitor the traffic when trouble shooting

  15. Download and register • When a new feature is added or a bug is solved for a Buspro device, very likely a new HBST will be released. • Where to download the newest HBST (recommend to check every month) • From official website http://www.hdlautomation.com • Or from ftp website ftp://59.41.255.150/en(enlish)/HDL%20Buspro/Softwares/HBST(HDL%20Buspro%20Setup%20Tool)/ • Or from dropbox website • https://www.dropbox.com/sh/nohtog3lglfjci6/AABgqPnp2V25YuShJIvQr2c1a?dl=0 • How to register HBST • After finished installing HBST, right-click it and select “run as administrator”, a serial code will be generated, fill in the information and then register.

  16. Run HBST … HBST requires UDP 6000 port Both HBST and Buspro IP module (typically the HDL-MBUS01IP.431) utilize UDP 6000 to communicate with each other. If some software has occupied this port (very rare though) before running HBST, the initialization of HBST will fail. A tool (can be downloaded from the link below) can be used to scan the process and terminate it. ftp://59.41.255.150/en(enlish)/HDL%20Buspro/Softwares/HBST(HDL%20Buspro%20Setup%20Tool)/ Ethernet Switch Run HBST

  17. Ethernet cable When an Ethernet router/switch is used, both straight-through cable and crossover cable work. If not (see right), only those PCs/laptops which do not have auto MDI/MDIX function (generally those very old NICs) requires to use cross cable. Straight-through cable: Standard 568B for both ends Crossover cable: Standard 568B at one end and Standard 568A at the other end Standard 568A: Green white—1,Green—2,Orange white—3,Blue—4 Blue white—5,Orange—6,Brown white—7,Brown —8 Standard 568B: Orange white—1, Orange —2, Green white—3,Blue—4 Blue white——5, Green—6, Brown white—7,Brown—8

  18. Physical medium Buspro IP protocol can run on both Ethernet and WiFi, it can run on fiber too, actually physical medium does not matter as long as it can carry TCP/IP packet.

  19. IP selection … Windows system has a mechanism to evaluate network quality and may redirect the traffic and generally it favors Ethernet, this can be problematic if both IP segments of WiFi and Ethernet are the same. E.g., both are 192.168.10.x. To avoid the potential problem, DO NOT set WiFi and Ethernet in the same IP segment, e.g., we can set WiFi in 192.168.1.x, Ethernet in 192.168.10.x. Wifi router Potential problem Ethernet switch/router

  20. Run HBST … Ethernet Switch PC/laptop has to be connected to LAN, either via Ethernet or WiFi, to attain an IP, before running HBST. If PC/laptop connects to both Ethernet and WiFi, IP selection has to be made from the two IPs according to connections. After selected, exit HBST and run it again. WiFi router Select Ethernet IP in this case

  21. IP selection … WiFi router Select WiFi IP in this case Ethernet switch/router Select IP from menu bar, “Setup->Ethernet”

  22. IP port favoured … … Ethernet Switch Configuration phase When configuring using HBST, most modules, e.g, Relay, requires low data bandwidth, Buspro port is adequate. However, some modules, requires higher data bandwidth, configure via Buspro port will likely timeout, for these modules, an IP port is provided. These modules are HDL-MBUS01IP.431, SB-DN-1IP, SB-DN-SMS/IP, HDL-MGSM.431, SB-DN-512DMX, SB-DN-48DMX, HDL-MCIP-RF.10, SB-Z-Audio, HDL-MZBOX.20. Ethernet Switch Run time phase When in run time, Buspro port is adequate for control purpose for all modules. To have peace in mind, if there are adequate Ethernet ports on Ethernet switch/router, suggest to just connect IP port only for any IP modules in both phases, except the gateway MBUS01IP.431.

  23. Factory IP Avoid Ethernet conflict For all modules with IP port, the Factory network setting is IP=192.168.10.x (generally 192.168.10.250), subnet mask=255.255.255.0, IP MAC=H-D-L-85-85-85. 1. To avoid IP or IP MAC conflict, connect only one brand new modules to the network one time, change its IP and IP MAC before connecting another brand new module to the network. 2. To access the brand new module using HBST, the PC/laptop has to be in the same IP segment, i.e., 192.168.10.y Long press the button till it turns red will reset the network parameters, i.e., IP=192.168.10.250, subnet mask=255.255.255.0, IP MAC=H-D-L-85-85-85, Gateway=192.168.10.1.

  24. Verify connection When in doubt, use ping command to check the connection. (Windows->Start->CMD)

  25. Factory ID Avoid ID Buspro conflict Each Buspro device has a unique 8-byte long number, which is the factory sequence number, called HDL MAC. It can be used for HBST to change the ID of devices when duplicated Subnet ID and Device ID exist. Duplicated ID is not allowed but expected in new installation since all brand new products have the same Subnet ID and Device ID (generally 1/5). We can change them in “Address Management” (see menu bar).

  26. Change ID for specific device The HDL MAC is also used when to identify or change the ID of a specific device. 1. Press the button of device (for non-IP module only) till it turns red (3 seconds), 2. Click “Indicate initial address”, the ID should pop up, we can then change the ID (if needed) 3. Click “Modify initial address” to exit and turn off the button.

  27. Check firmware version When support is needed from HDL, For most cases Tech Support would like to know the device firmware version. The firmware can be read by right-click the device.

  28. Online upgrade With online upgrade feature, it is very easy and convenient for installers to upgrade Buspro products, simply using HBST software to select the device and upgrade with the firmware file supplied by Tech Support.

  29. Trouble shooting Buspro bus command format When in trouble shooting, HBST “Command test” (Ctrl + T) is an useful tool, we can track the command sender and receiver and the opcode. For the first command on the right, the sender is 09/89, the receiver is 09/99. Find more, ftp://59.41.255.150/en(enlish)/HDL%20Buspro/Softwares/HBST(HDL%20Buspro%20Setup%20Tool)/

  30. Remote Server We can configure and control HDL Buspro system via Internet after do some settings for the IP gateway. With the help of a server, the SB-DN-1IP in Remote Server mode will keep updating itself to the server, users can always get info of the remote SB-DN-1IP from the server and later access the HDL Buspro system directly Customize

  31. Integration • Existing integration solutions • 1. UDP protocol • Buspro is developed by HDL, but the UDP protocol is open, it is available to software companies on demand. Existing 3rd party apps/driver are listed as follows. • iRidium , http://www.iridiummobile.net • THRONE, http://throne-bms.com/en/ • Control4, http://www.insona.ccftp://59.41.255.150/en(enlish)/HDL%20Buspro/Softwares/Control4%20drivers/ • Magiesta, http://www.magiesta.com/

  32. Integration • 2. RS232/RS485 • SB-DN-RS232N has configurable table in which ASCII or HEX strings can be filled, this feature enables installers to fill the table by themselves to control the TV, projector, etc since their string protocols are relatively easy to fill in. • For those CRC-included protocols, it is not convenient for installers to fill in, e.g., Somfy curtain, in this case, HDL can release a specific firmware for SB-DN-RS232N on demand (approval from HDL CTO or RnD manager is needed). • Also, There is existing SB-DN-RS232N firmware version for CoolMaster and CoolLink products which can control many Japanese AC systems and famous Chinese AC brands like GREE, Midea. These two products are developed by CoolAutomation company, http://coolautomation.com

  33. Integration • 3. KNX/Buspro gateway, SB-DN-EIB • With gateway SB-DN-EIB, we can, e.g., use KNX user panel to control Buspro dimmer/relay, or use Buspro user panel to control KNX dimmer/relay. • 4. Building automation system, BACnet

  34. Integration • 5. Lighting control system, DALI 6. Stage lighting and effect control system, DMX512/1990,

  35. Integration 7. IR HDL has three modules which have IR emitter. (April 2, 2016) The process of learning the IR code from IR remote can be time-consuming, especially when to learn the AC remote. 240 repeat process is expected. 4 modes: Cooling, heating, Auto, Dry; 4 fan speeds: High, Medium, Low, Auto; Set point: 16C to 30C; 4x4x15=240 HDL is developing a new method (April 2, 2016) by which installer can just lookup the IR database by selecting the brand and series and carry out an one-minute test. The IR database is provided by HDL and supposed to be cover most of IR controlled devices all over the world.

  36. Integration 8. OPC OPC is an industrial automation control system. With HDL OPC server software, the existing OPC client platform in factory can control Buspro devices, generally the dimmer/relay for lighting.

  37. Relay ON/OFF control ON/OFF control is straightforward, simply by applying power to or disconnect mains from the loads. Both Dimmer (disable dimming function) and Relay modules can be used for lighting on/off control. When Relay is used, to guarantee the relay can be turned on/off successfully, the voltage need to be high enough. Magnetic latching relay requires bus voltage >=15VDC 10A/ch series relay 16A/ch series relay

  38. 10A/ch Relay The challenge for relay is the instants of turning on/off loads, high voltage/current is produced at these moments and different loads have different electrical characteristics. below is a watt recommendation list when connect to different loads. 10A/ch series relays utilize16A rated magnetic latching relay component. 40. Phase control dimmer Phase control dimmer 1. Leading edge dimmer Utilize TRIAC component, suitable for resistive and inductive load, such as incandescent, halogen, inductive magnetic ballast fluorescent. • Important notes: • Keep temperature in DB box lower than 45 ℃. • Minimal load 40W. (Constant current module MCR01.40 can be used to absorb the current from the leading edge dimmer when the dimmer channel is off to solve the issue of lamp flickering when channel off. ) • 2. Trailing edge dimmer • Trailing edge dimmers utilize MOSFET component, can be set as leading edge dimmer, it is software-configurable. • Suitable for resistive and capacitive load, such as incandescent, halogen, LED. • Important notes: • Keep temperature in DB box lower than 45℃. • Inductive load is prohibited. DB box

  41. Phase control dimmer mains Leading edge dimming Trailing edge dimming How phase control works Leading edge and trailing edge are two dimming technologies, the former one chocks (blocks) the leading part of sine-wave, and the latter one the trailing part, such that the average output voltage varies and so the load is less powered. 75% output 50% output 25% output

  42. AC blind motor Connecting two motors in parallel to share one control channel of SB-DN-2Motor is prohibited because of back EMF, the first stopped motor will lead to the second moving motor reverse a little bit.

  43. DC blind motor DC blind motor is rare, below is the wiring and setting to control DC motor.

  44. Siemens MC55i supports all four frequencies all over the world 850MHz/900MHz/1800MHz/1900 MHz SMS control Receive text alarm message from HDL SMS module, e.g., “second window broken!!” or send text message to SMS module to control Buspro system, e.g., turn on AC on the way home. Wearable concept phone Siemens MC52i supports two frequencies (900MHz/1800MHz ) HDL-MGSM.431 Support all four GSM frequencies all of the world SB-DN-SMS/IP (Phasing out, April 3, 2015)
