  4. CMC YEAR 2002 CYCLE • New Starts Under Contract • Prediction of Part Distortion in Die Casting • Low Cost and Energy Efficient Methods for the Manufacture of Semi-Solid (SSM) Feedstock • Improved Design, Operation and Durability of Shot Sleeves

  5. CMC YEAR 2003 CYCLE • Decision to have a Solicitation Delayed until Fall or Early Winter • Will be for 2004 but may use some 2003 $’s • Uncosteds Need to Be Low

  6. AMC/DOD Status Report • 2002 Annual R&D Review is Scheduled for Sept 12, Chicago • Individual R&D Status Reviews • CWRU Jun 25 • OSU Jun 26 • WPI Jul 17 • Enterprise Integration Reviews Jul 31 at AFS • NADCA, AFS, NFFS, SFSA

  7. Congress 2002 • Scheduled for Sept 30 – Oct 2, 2002 at the Radisson O’Hare • 6 sessions & 30 papers • Deadline for Papers - May 31!!! • Deadline for Presentations – Aug 15

  8. Die Casting Competition • Call for Casting for 2002 • Need entries by end of June • Awards will be sent to winners • Castings will be Displayed at the C&E • Articles in DCE and other Trade Magazines

  9. TAG Report • New Proposals Presented to the TAG • The Effect of Gating Design on the Quality of Semi-Solid Aluminum Castings • Mathematical Modeling of a Fluid Bed Quench Bath in a Vacuum Furnace • Measurement of the Impact Toughness of Die Cast Aluminum 380 Alloy at Various Temperatures
