Religion – a pattern or tradition of behaviour, ritual and beliefs • Culture – patterns of what we do: we all have ‘culture’ • Faith – a belief or series of beliefs in God (or gods, spirits or other creatures often faith includes the idea that these beliefs cannot be proven or that they are not evidenced by material science) • Values – these are qualities or ideas about what matters. Individuals or businesses or colleges may have values they support or uphold. • Beliefs – beliefs can be held with or without a commitment to a particular religion or faith. All people have specific beliefs

  4. Diversity – faith and belief • It is important to recognise that sometimes equality and faith practices might be in conflict. • Faith and culture are not always the same. Culture is not the same as ethnic background or heritage. • Different people of the same religion may have different beliefs. • It’s fine to ask people if you want to know how or if their faith or religion has an impact on them (but let people refuse to talk if that’s what they want to do).

Diversity – faith and beliefs • Why does it matter? • Law – equal treatment is required • Good business sense – especially in a service industry • Widening your knowledge and experience can help you get work and adjust to living in a more diverse setting. • All human beings are made in the image of God and so should be loved and treated as well as you would want to be treated yourself.
