This only works on Flat Roofed Buildings... here’s why • 6-12” of water is stored in large plastic or fiberglass containers that are covered in glazing. • Dark colored waterbeds are placed around it to attract solar heat • The interior space located directly below the installation is warmed by radiant heat.

  3. When Heating a home with a roof pond The idea is to attract solar heat, and store it throughout the day Then at night, radiate the heat back into the home through convection.

  4. When Cooling a home with a roof pond Insulating panels are put over the pond during the day to block out solar heat Then they are uncovered at night to receive cool air, while the pond collects the heat that travels up to the ceiling, this is otherwise known as evaporation

  5. Limitations • Cooling is most effective in low humidity climates (but can be modified to work in high humidity climates) • Heating is very effective in the southern U.S. • Building should not have any obstructions overhead for maximum sun exposure. • Only works for single story homes or the upper story of buildings. • Building must be able to support up to 65 pounds per square ft • Must have an adequate drainage system
