  4. Write Often Make writing a priority. Creative work results from practice and sustained effort. Jhumpa Lahiri

  5. Write Often • Make a special space for writing. • Minimize distractions. • Use a Pavlovian “cue” to begin. • Schedule your time in your calendar. • Schedule half-hours, not hours and hours. • Begin writing on time, even if you don’t feel like it.

  9. Write Uncritically Generative writing. GW is similar to spontaneous writing in that you do not stop to critique. You do write about a specific topic relevant to your project or discipline.

  10. Writing Critically At some point, you have to turn generative writing into finished projects. If you have NOT critiqued yourself while generating ideas, you will have lots of ideas to work with that are worth developing further.

  11. Write with “Boundaries” All living things have boundaries. Stop writing. Isaac Asimov

  12. Write with “Boundaries” • Set a writing task or a goal for the day. • Stop when you are finished, or… • Stop when your time is up. • Do not write until you are exhausted and disgruntled.
