Why Victoria for Defence Sector Overview • Victoria’s defence industry is the most diverse in Australia, encompassing aerospace, maritime, land, munitions, systems and military training. • Victoria has over 300 defence companies, employing over 6,000 people in the defence industry. • The Victorian defence industry generates almost A$1.7 billion in turnover and over A$225 million in exports annually.

Why Victoria for Defence Business Ecosystem • Victoria has a core of defence industry primes and Tier One suppliers including Thales, BAE Systems, Boeing, GKN Aerospace and Lockheed Martin. • Melbourne is home to large research organisations such as Australia’s Defence Material Technology Centre (DMTC), the Defence Science & Technology Organisation’s (DSTO), the Defence Science Institute (DSI), Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and leading edge universities. • Victoria is home to one of Australia’s major naval shipbuilding facilities (Williamstown shipyard), delivering warships to the Australian Defence Force and allied nations.
