  4. Coaching Staff • Bob Brofft – Served as Assistant Coach of the Stingrays in 2010 and Head Coach last season, 2012. He also serves as the Head Coach of the Centreville High School swim team and an Assistant Site Coach of the Potomac Marlins. • Ryan David - Served as Assistant Coach of the Stingrays in 2011.    He currently serves as Head Site Coach of the Potomac Marlins in Alexandria, VA.  • Junior Coaches • Volunteer Coaches 4

Tuesdays • Stingray Starters – Same as 2012 • Held at the start of each Tuesday time trials • Open only to 8&Under swimmers • Only freestyle and backstroke • There are not separate time trials for these events; all 8 and under swimmers who wish to swim free or back swim them as part of Stingray Starters • Times count for seeding (but not for records) • Participation ribbons • Dates: 6/25, 7/2, Friday Timings, & Inter Squad on 7/22 • Time Trials • 8 & Under free and back stroke time trials are incorporated into Stingray Starter meet • Short break/Warm-ups between Stingray Starters and Time Trials • Dates: 6/25 & 7/2; IM’s first on 7/2 7

  8. NVSL Rules Updates • 8 & Under 25M Butterfly for boys and girls still in place • Age Group Eligibility for entire season determined as of age on June 1 still in place 8

  9. LRR Policy Updates • Requests for refunds of full registration fee requests due before first day of practice, May 28; no refunds granted after that 9

General Requirements and Obligations • Must be a member of Little Rocky Run in good standing • Register online and pay fee - checks to Mnna Levin; late fee starting on May 1; no refunds after first day of practice • As of June 1, 2013, must be 18 years old or younger • Must demonstrate swimming proficiency by legally swimming one length (25 meters) of the pool using any stroke by the first time trials (June 15 and 17) • This requirement may be demonstrated by having previously met this requirement as a member of the Stingrays or another swim team • 8&Under Swimmers who swim the length in more than 50 seconds are eligible to swim with the Stingray Starters and can transition to Monday meets when they reach the 50 second threshold

  11. Volunteering • Colleen Kikis, Volunteer Coordinator • Running meets and time trials is a major effort • Over 40 volunteers are needed for each meet; over 60 for home • Each family is required to volunteer for six events • Requirement is per family, not per swimmer • Must be either five meets and one social event, or six meets • Volunteer sign-ups are done on line • Opens on April 24 at 9pm; Closes on May 22 at 9pm 11

Strokes, Rules, and Officials Steve Parrot Officials Director • Saturday Meets Individual Events • Freestyle • Backstroke • Breaststroke • Butterfly • Monday meets, Time Trials, and Divisionals • Individual strokes as above, plus Individual Medley (25 meters of each strokes) • No relay events • NVSL adheres to USA Swimming technical rules (with some NVSL modifications) • www.usaswimming.org • What is a DQ? + 25 meters: 8&U 50 meters: All Others Age Group Relays and Mixed Age Relays (100 m) 12

Stroke & Turn Judging Philosophy Steve Parrot Officials Director • NVSL Purpose: To develop in the children participating in this program a love for the sport, advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship • Dominant Principle: Fairness to all competitors, giving the benefit of the doubt, in every instance, to the swimmer • Fairness = Applying the same standards to all swimmers regardless of age • Benefit of the doubt = Only “call it” if you are absolutely sure you “saw it” • Trivia Question:

Tuesday, May 28 through Monday, June 17 • 13-18: 3:15 – 4:15 PM • 9-12: 4:15 – 5:15 PM • Returning 8 and unders: 5:15 – 6:00 PM • New 8 and unders: 5:45-6:25 PM • Wednesday, June 19 through Monday, July 22 • 13-18: 8:00 – 9:00 AM • 11-12: 9:00 – 10:00 AM • 9-10: 10:00-11:00 AM • Returning 8 and unders: 11:00 – 11:45 AM • New 8 and unders: 11:45 AM-12:25 PM • Note: Times may be adjusted by the coaching staff

Elections • Five positions are up for Election this year: • Assistant Team Representative • Volunteer Manager • Table workers Manager • Data Coordinator • Secretary • Looking for Volunteers to serve on Election Committee • Cannot Run for Office if on this committee • Nominations will be due to Election Committee by mid to late July, date TBD • Nominees will be introduced at the Team Banquet on July 27 • Election third week in September
