  1. Messianic Psalms

  2. Psalm 35 What happens in our hearts when our good deeds are repaid with evil? I’ve done nothing but good and I see nothing but overwhelming evil in return.

  3. “Contend, O LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid. Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away; may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, may ruin overtake them by surprise—may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin.” Psalm 35: 1-8

  4. “Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation. My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, O LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.” Psalm 35:9-10

  5. “Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation. My whole being will exclaim, “Who is like you, O LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them.” Psalm 35:9-10 “May those who delight in my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “The LORD be exalted, who delights in the well-being of his servant.” Psalm 35:27

  6. What is the HOLE in our hearts? For the most part, we really do not believe what we say we do! “And whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him… Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men. Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:17, 23-24

  7. Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:17, 23-24

  8. Do we REALLY do EVERYTHING we do “as unto the Lord?” “What goes around comes around.” functional Hindus or Buddhists with a re-configured construct of the Ying & Yang “If we do good to others, good will come back to us!”

  9. “Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. They repay me evil for good and leave my soul forlorn. Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; attackers gathered against me when I was unaware. They slandered me without ceasing. Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked; they gnashed their teeth at me.

  10. O Lord, how long will you look on? Rescue my life from their ravages, my precious life from these lions. Let not those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; let not those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye. They do not speak peaceably, but devise false accusations against those who live quietly in the land. They gape at me and say, “Aha! Aha! With our own eyes we have seen it.” O LORD, you have seen this; be not silent. Do not be far from me, O Lord. Awake, and rise to my defense! Contend for me, my God and Lord. Vindicate me in your righteousness, O LORD my God; do not let them gloat over me. Do not let them think, “Aha, just what we wanted!” or say, “We have swallowed him up.” Psalm 35:11-25

  16. Difference between enemies and betrayal of someone close to you. EXPECTATIONS Disappointment! (a human problem)

  17. “No matter how thin you make the batter, there’re always two sides to the pancake!” bumping into each others’ wounds- -pain! gossip; betrayal; malicious, false accusations Justice- -my justice, my way; “we have to get to the bottom of this--NOW!”

  18. “The problem is, the man is not dead!”

  19. “He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.” Proverbs 17:9 “A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” Proverbs 19:11

  20. That’s why we have Jesus!!

  21. “For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and endure it, this is commendable before God. To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.” 1 Peter 2:19-21 “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:16-17

  22. “ During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered…” Hebrews 5:7-8

  23. God has the Eternal Wisdom and the Sovereign Power to utilize what He hates in order to accomplish what He loves.

  24. “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…” Philippians 3:10 “…it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their (our) salvation perfect through suffering.” Hebrews 2:10

  25. What’s the HOLE in our hearts? We believe we can follow Jesus and escape suffering, hardship and trials--or at least not too much of them! What’s His HOLY provision? “Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” Romans 8:16-17 What is our WHOLE-hearted response?

  26. “I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death…” Philippians 3:10
