  6. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Ballot Box Collection- • Tuesday 1st May • 11am - 2pm or 4pm - 6pm. • It takes up to 1/2 hour to check contents!

  7. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Polling Stations - • Contact your keyholder • Be sure you know where you are going • Arrive in plenty of time • Who may attend?

  8. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Setting up- • Layout • Health and Safety - lifting • New polling screens • Seal box - When? • Open poll - on dot of 7am

  9. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Notices and Forms - • Familiarise with what you have • Ensure adequate signage - walk it • Statutory notices - must go up!

  10. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Ballot Papers - • Must be in strict numerical order - check! • Must have official mark - no stamping! • Must have unique identifying mark - which is …..

  12. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Check Voter - • On Register? Be careful - changes to legislation could have poll card but not be on Register! • Mark Register - D/P • Local Government Electors only • Clerical errors

  13. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Issue Paper(s) - • Allocate Ballot paper • Check identifying mark and official mark • Fold • Hand over

  14. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Corresponding Number List - • No more counterfoils. • List of ballot paper numbers for station • MUST mark elector number against paper(s) issued

  15. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Voter votes - • In Secrecy! • Spoilt ballot papers • Assistance to voters - must complete forms • Ballot paper(s) MUST go into ballot box • Voter should show you official mark

District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Absent Voting - • Postal Votes • Can be handed in at station provided in same parish/ward • MUST be logged on form provided • MUST be logged out if handed to PSVO • Possible problems • Didn’t apply for postal vote • Never received postal vote • Tendered paper!!!

  17. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Absent Voting - • Proxy Voters • Voter can vote if arrives before proxy • Emergency proxy votes - medical reasons only

  21. District and Parish Elections3rd May 2007 Fees- • £175 - for all duties in connection with position • £40 training fee • Mileage for collection of ballot box, travel to polling station and to ballot box drop off point • £5 - telephone allowance • Actual costs - electricity
