Animation films in the past… • 2D animation was created through individual drawings, paintings or illustrations; photographed frame by frame • Solely for kids • Computerized animation in Disney’s TRON,1982, was first screened over 20 mins
Present animated films today… • Fully computer generated – 3D Visual effects • Using computers to craft environments, rather than drawing them hand by hand, was considered inauthentic.
Present animated films today… • More upcoming films uses animation film • Mostly focus on animation effects in the movie • Not only for kids now, even adults enjoy animation
Animations in Singapore • Government funding to boost this industry • Media Development Authority (MDA) funds $165 million, to turn the media sector into a growth engine for the economy. • MDA wishes to create 10,000 to 12,000 new jobs, many of which involve people creating animation content for the world market • Over 20 animation production companies in Singapore • More schools offers 3D animation courses(10 currently, NYP is one of them)
