  2. Warm Up, 11/4 [3 min] NO NOTES • What is your opinion of the poetry that we wrote last Thursday/Friday? Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? Did you like the picture selections? Why or why not? What should I change for next year? Do you enjoy writing your own poetry…or do you find it more enjoyable than you did before? 5 PEOPLE NEEDED FOR DISCUSSION

  3. Sijo Background NO NOTES • Discovers young adults talented in writing and encourages them to learn and write about Korea and its culture. • YOUR ethnic background does not matter.

  4. Sijo Prizes NO NOTES • $300 1st place • $200 2nd place • $100 3rd place

Sijo Form TAKE NOTES • Sijo is a specialized poetic form, like Haiku. • It is written in three (3) lines and must follow a syllabic (syllable) pattern: • My watch is broken = 5 syllables. • The clock is under the desk--what time does it say? = 13 syllables. • Each line must have 14-16 syllables.

  6. Rules TAKE NOTES • 3 Line poem • 14-16 syllables per line • Must follow a theme of • metaphysical (reality) • pastoral (nature) • cosmological (good vs. evil).
