A web application that supports collaboration at a distance • Uses: • Conducting synchronous instruction at a distance • Conducting extended reference transactions at a distance • Conducting meetings at a distance • Elluminate is also referred to at the U of Alberta as eClassLive! What is Elluminate?

  4. A computer with access to the internet and with speakers and a microphone attached or a headset Java Web Start – go to http://bit.ly/f3MJBZ to determine whether you already have this. If not, you will be directed to a page where this can be downloaded. A CCID What is Required?

  5. Anyone with a valid CCID can set up Elluminate sessions for non-credit courses, single shot instructional sessions or web conference sessions using the Staff Learning & Professional Development Courses option. If you require privileges for setting up credit courses, contact the Centre for Teaching and Learning at elearning@ualberta.ca . Elluminate privileges

  6. Setting up a session Go to the University of Alberta Homepage and click on eClass.

  7. Setting up a session Select Staff Learning and Professional Development Courses and click on Continue. When prompted login with your CCID/PW.

  8. Setting up a session Click on eClass Live Course and select Teach on the following screen.

  10. Setting up the session Click on click here to create a new session.

  11. Setting up the session Enter a session name and set the date/time for the session. Change Boundary Time (i.e. the time that the session is accessible before the actual start and end time), if desired.

  12. Session Access If you select Display on ElluminateLive! Manager Public Page, your session will be listed on the calendar and anyone will be able to participate - probably not something you will want to do. If you wish to password the session, enter the desired password in the box.

  13. Session Moderators & Participants Only those with credit-course instructor logons can restrict participants and make everyone a moderator.

  14. PreLoads Upload any files Whiteboard or multimedia files you wish to make available in your Elluminate session. PowerPoint files cannot be pre-loaded when setting up the session.

  15. Session Attributes The Recording Mode can be set to Manual or Automatic or Disabled. If it is set on Manual, the moderator will be prompted to record or not record when he/she joins the session. Supervised means that the moderator will be able to view any Chats that take place. All Permissions allows participants to speak, chat and use the whiteboard

  16. Session Notes Insert any desired notes. These will be sent to the moderator and/or the participants.

  20. Starting the session as Moderator In order to moderator the session, the moderator must login to eClass Live! and click on Session Name. If he/she connects via the email link, he/she will only be joining the session as a participant.
