Mass Storage Working Group Charter • To identify mass storage technology options and identify capabilities, applications, and the characteristics associated with using these products/technologies in airborne environments. • To inform and educate the WAEA TC on emerging mass storage technology trends and the associated characteristics.
Actions Accomplished to Date • Miltope-authored “White Paper” on the use of sealed drive technology for IFE applications. Posted on WAEA Web Site • MBM-Lago-authored Technology Review Paper on major storage technology types (Draft 1 – to be posted on WAEA Web Site) • Baseline Table establishing the types of mass storage devices in use today and the emerging storage technologies identified at this time (Technology Block – following slide)
The Basic Technology Blocks • MS Word Table
Future Actions Planned • Need additional “Technology Experts” on the panel. • The WG will begin publishing monthly “summary lists” of the various technologies (hard disks, CD ROM, Solid State , etc.) which list technical characteristics, and application uses. Technology Expert participation required. • When Summary Lists are complete, a White Paper on the medium will be published. • The WG will have the ongoing responsibility to update the information with technology evolutions and continue to inform the WAEA TC.
