  2. 12 Minor • Hosea • Joel • Amos • Obadiah • Jonah • Micah • Nahum • Habakkuk • Zephaniah • Haggai • Zechariah • Malachi Prophetic Books • 4 major prophets (5 books) • Isaiah • Jeremiah • Ezekiel • Daniel

  3. The God of Daniel • The book of Daniel is written in 606 BC • It can be split up into 2 sections: the frist 6 chapters are historic and the last 6 chapters are apocalyptic • Then there is the completion of chapter 3 and Susanna and the the dragon Bel that are in the Septuigint (Greek)

  4. Chapter 1- Food and Drink • King Nebuchadnezzar attacked Judah 3 times and in his first attack he seized altar vessels and people, youth. • Among them were Daniel and the 3 youth: Hananiah, Azariah, and Mishael. • God handed His people over because of their sins which Daniel admitted. • God allowed the vessels to be taken as a remembrance of God’s presence with His people even though they were in exile.

  5. The Young Men • The chosen young men were to be healthy, handsome, smart, wise, educated, and fit to serve. • They were to be taught to speak and write the Chaldean language. • God chose Daniel and his friends to be witness for Him. • Daniel acted as the spiritual leader of his friends. • Being Head of His friends He is seen as Jesus Christ, Head of the Church.

  6. Names • Daniel “God is my Judge” to Belteshazzar “servant of Bel” • Hananiah “Yahweh is Gracious” to Shadrach “inspired by the sun god” • Mishael “who is like God” to Meshach “who is like the moon god” • Azariah “Yahweh helps” to Abed-Nego “servant of Nebo (Bel). • Do Not Be Conformed

  7. Daniel and Jesus Christ • We said before he was the Head of his friends as Christ is the Head of the Church. • Daniel’s first known confrontation with the prince of darkness was with food just as Christ with Satan.

  8. Daniel and Jesus Christ • Daniel came from Jerusalem to Babylon to live in captivity as Christ came from Heaven to Earth, our captivity. • Daniel was sentenced to death with the wise men even though he was innocent as Christ was sentenced to death even though He was sinless. • Because of Daniel his Jewish friends and Babylonian wise men were saved from death. Much more because of Jesus, Jews and Gentiles were redeemed from death.

  9. Daniel and Jesus Christ • Just as Daniel and his friends were promoted after being saved from death, Christ was raised up in glory after death. • God revealed to Daniel the dream of the king and his thoughts before he slept, as Christ knew the thoughts of men. • Daniel did not glorify himself as Christ but He wanted people to focus on God’s love toward them.

  10. The Statue

  11. Daniel and Jesus Christ • Daniel brought glory to His God when the king confessed the God of Daniel, just as Christ brought glory to His Heavenly Father • Just as Daniel asked the king for his friends so also Christ asked the Heavenly Father for His disciples.

  12. The King’s Second Dream

  13. Belshazzar- Mene, Tekel, Upharsin

  14. Daniel and Jesus Christ • Daniel’s faithfulness is similar to a much greater faithfulness of Our Lord Jesus Christ to Him who appointed Him. • Just as the evil men plotted against Daniel and he was innocent, Christ was sinless and the plotted against Him and delivered Him to Pilate.

  15. Daniel and Jesus Christ • The king delivered Daniel to death to please the ungodly people just as Pilate delivered Christ to the Jews to appease them. • Daniel was pushing and mocking on his way to death as Christ was on His way to Golgotha. • The king and counselors stamped the stone with a seal just as Pilate sealed the tomb of Christ.

  16. Daniel and Jesus Christ • Daniel spoke to the King with the same love and respect as before he was thrown in the den. He forgave just as Christ forgave those who crucified Him on the cross. • Taking Daniel out of the Den is a symbol of the Resurrection of the Lord and His Ascension by the exceedingly mighty power of God.
