Discussion • What message is the famous failures video trying to send? • What does the narrator mean by “If you’ve never failed, you’ve never lived?” • What does Michael Jordan mean when he says, “I don't do things half-heartedly. Because I know if I do, then I can expect half-hearted results.” • Why does Tiger Woods go to the driving range right after winning or losing a tournament? • How might these messages apply to school?

  5. Objectives • The people in these videos have a certain kind of mindset we’re going to learn more about. • We’ll learn about the different kinds of mindsets, your mindset, and how to change your mindset.

  8. Mindset Results • More “yes” responses on even-numbered items demonstrates a growth mindset. • More “yes” responses on odd-numbered items demonstrates a fixed mindset. • If the results are close, it’s likely that the mindset is closer to a fixed mindset.

Definitions • Fixed mindset: • Belief that your intelligence and abilities cannot be changed. • Fear making mistakes. • Always trying to prove yourself. • Growth mindset: • Belief that your abilities and intelligence can change through effort and learning. • View mistakes as learning opportunities. • Learning for yourself, not for anyone else.

  10. Discussion • What kind of mindset do you think Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, Thomas Edison, and Albert Einstein have? Why? • Was anyone surprised by their results? • What do the results mean? • What can you do about what you learned?

  11. You Can Change Your Intelligence! • So how can we change our intelligence/ability? • How do Tiger or Michael develop their talent?

They are constantly putting forth effort to improve their abilities. • Learning from mistakes – they make mistakes or fail and learn from those mistakes and failures. • Persist – they don’t give up!
