This art museum occupies a 46,621 sq. meters exhibiting one of the largest art collections in all of North America. Today, the museum houses over 93,000 artworks from different parts of the world including America, Europe, Asia, Canada, and another indigenous artist. Besides the permanent artwork, the museum also exhibits and organizes other travel exhibitions traveling across Canada and similar regions. The National Gallery is home to 2, 75,000 books, 76,000 documents and files, 95,000 microforms, 50,000 auction catalogues and 3,60,000 research photos.

  3. Major’s Hill Park Major’s Hill Park is located along the Rideau Canal at the mouth of the Ottawa river, west of the Parliament building and to the north of the National Gallery. This region was originally home to canal constructors of Rideau Canal and the official residence of the Superintending Engineer- Lt. Colonel John. Initially, the hill was called Colonel’s Hill, however, it was replaced in 1832 after Captain Daniel Bolton resided there. The hills underwent major damages after a massive fire broke in 1848. Today it is managed by the National Capital Commission and the park is widely celebrated for its green space and for hosting several events and celebrations.

  4. The Rideau Canal The Rideau Canal or the Rideau Waterway is one of the largest Canals that connect Canada with Ottawa and Ontario with Lake Ontario and Saint Lawrence. The canal stretches for 202 km and utilizes sections of two rivers- the Cataraqui and the Rideau. Fully operated by Parks Canada, the Rideau Canal has got its name from the French word-curtain because of the Rideau River twin waterfalls that connect the Ottawa River. This canal was first opened in 1832 with the purpose of protecting the city in case of war. Today the canal serves multi-purpose and is a popular boating site. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007 and opens up from May to mid-October.
