  8. The Business-Savvy CIO From IT Cost Center Manager… To Business-Savvy CIO… 8 8 8 8

  9. Question for Harvey • Looking at trends like cloud computing, outsourcing and “bring your own device” to work, do you see the role of CIO going away anytime soon?

  10. A CIO’s Perspective • Requires a change in how you see and position yourself • Moving from an implementer who participates in strategy • To a strategist who oversees execution • Dig in to learn new technical capabilities • From a standpoint of what is valuable and possible • With less depth on how to implement • Delegate this • Determine what business components need to exist to make your efforts succeed • Lead the efforts to fill in the gaps • Build your relationships as much around your industry/business as around IT “If you want a seat at the table, you must behave like the other people at the table.”

  11. I totally get Harvey’s concept of a “business-savvy CIO” and I agree, in principle, that we need to get there as a profession. However, I am totally swamped with the day-to-day stuff that occupies my time and attention 24 by 7. Where/how do I begin the journey? Questions for June

  12. Survey Question 1 • Did you find this conversation important to you personally? • Yes: I am dealing with this everyday! • Yes: I am thinking about this regularly. • Somewhat: I think its and issue for others to deal with. • No: This interesting, but not a concern of mine. • No: I don’t see this as an issue. Place picture of survey response in this slide before posting to site. See Mike or Karen
