  5. 2017 Organizational Assessment Organization • Will be sent to all Indiana Main Street organizations by the end of December, 2017 • Will be due by February 2, 2018 • Online assessment through Survey Monkey • Online Return on Investment statistics through Survey Monkey • 2018 Memorandum of Agreement for IMS programs • Webinar to be scheduled for January 2018

Why? 2017 Assessment • A tool for recognizing strengths and weaknesses • Gauge where the local program stands in achieving its visions and goals • Guide for further growth and development • Assist Indiana Main Street in creating targeted training to local Main Street programs • Provide key investment statistics to provide • quantifiable benefits of Main Street program

  7. Main Street America’s Ten Standards of Performance 2017 Assessment 1. Has broad-based community support for the commercial district revitalization process, with strong support from both the public and private sectors 2. Has developed vision and mission statements relevant to community conditions and to the local Main Street program's organizational stage. 3. Has a comprehensive Main Street work plan. 4. Possesses an historic preservation ethic.

  8. Main Street America’s Ten Standards of Performance 2017 Assessment 5. Has an active board of directors and committees. 6. Has an adequate operating budget. 7. Has a paid, professional executive director. (Required for Nationally Accredited Programs) 8. Conducts program of ongoing training for staff and volunteers. 9. Reports key statistics. 10. Current member of the National Trust National Main Street Network. (Required for Nationally Accredited Programs)

  9. Attachments required to be submitted 2017 Assessment • Mission and Vision Statements • Current Work Plan • Historic Preservation incentive programs and / or any design programs offered • Main Street district map • Two recent pictures that capture your Main Street district • List of board and committee members • Bylaws and any other policies and procedures • Annual Report, if applicable • Current budget • Fundraising materials such as pamphlets, letters, notecards • National Main Street membership information, if applicable

  10. 2017 Return on Investment Statistics Organization • Annual requirement to provide ROI stats to National Main Street • Provide local stats to your local government and stakeholders • Data to “back-up” Main Street benefits • Use data as a fundraising tool • Since 1985, Indiana Main Street can document • over $4.8 billion in Private and Public investments

ROI Details • Number of volunteers and volunteer hours • Number of businesses downtown • Number of new businesses created • Number of business expansions • Number of business relocations into and out of downtown • Number of business closures • Number of downtown housing units and number of units created in 2017 • Number of jobs created and lost full and parttime • Public and private investments downtown • New buildings, façades renovated, interior rehabs • Number of public improvements downtown • Number of vacancies

New for 2018 On Site Assessments • IMS will conduct follow-on onsite assessments • Annually for Nationally Accredited programs • Every three years for all other IMS designated programs • Assessments will begin in Spring 2018 • Assessment an additional gauge for organizational capacity and development • Schedule to be published soon

  14. National Main Street Community Transformation Strategy Visits PROGRAM GOAL National Main Street will conduct seven (7) one and a half day visits to seven (7) Main Street communities to align communities with Transformation Strategies.
