  1. Global Warming Is A Fact

  2. Are Humans Causing Global Warming? • Climate experts linked the average increase in global temperatures since the mid-20th century to manmade greenhouse gases • 11 of the last 12 years have ranked among the warmest years ever recorded. • Increases in carbon dioxide in ice cores are higher than many thousands of years ago. • Extreme changes in the atmosphere have occurred in the last several decades which is around the same time we started using fossil fuels.

  3. Green House Effect • The earths atmosphere is supposed to be thick enough to keep enough heat rays out so we don’t get to hot • Thin enough to let some through so we don’t get to cold. • We are putting gases in the atmosphere which is making it thicker. • This keeps the heat rays in and causes global warming.

  4. What We Effect On This Earth • Melted Glaciers have given polar bears and other arctic animals less places to hunt and raise young. • Insects have increased in new areas which causes the spread of disease through bugs like mosquitoes • Places like Africa who are at or above the crop tolerance temperatures are predicted to get worse. • Cities near the shore will be erased due to rising sea levels. • Warmer waters lead to bigger hurricanes.

  5. Before and After • Argentina’s Upsala Glacier was once the biggest in South America but now it melts at a rate of 200 meters • Mountains have lost snow at a more rapid rate. • The Pasterze, Austria’s longest glacier is now completely Grossglockner High Road

  6. Future Effects Of Global Warming • Hurricanes will get worse and hurricanes like Katrina will be common on the coastal areas. • In the next century the sea level is predicted to rise between 9 and 88cm. • The global temperature would increase by 2.5 to 10 degrees F.

  7. Is It Too Late? • Some things are too late to change such as the heat which is predicted to rise about 3 to 6 degrees in 30 years. • We can still slow things down by starting as soon as possible. • Our attempts to stop global warming won’t be felt until many years later

  8. We are warming • Ever since we started recording the earth’s temperature, within the last 100 years the temperature has risen 0.5 degrees Fahrenheit. • While just within the last 20 years the earth’s temperature has risen 0.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

  9. What scientist have said the cause for this warming is the continuous amount of Co2 that is being put into the air. • And since about 1736, the time of the Industrial Revolution, is when the amount of Co2 going into the atmosphere increased.

  10. Co2’s affect on us • Co2 is a greenhouse gas that takes in and absorbs and traps heat and other types of radiation that comes from the sun. • With all of the heat and other radiation not being able to escape the global. Gradually it will warm up the earth.

  11. Continued • Other then being a gas that traps heat, Co2 also acts as a trigger to start the effects of other kinds of gases. One for example is water vapor. • With Co2 heating up the atmosphere, it wants to take in moisture from the earth. And with that lost of moisture forces the earth to warm up even more to take back in more moisture. • So now with the warmer climates, the water vapor creates clouds that are higher in the air that are thinner, trap heat, and reflect more heat back to the earth.

  12. Effects to the poles • Another reason to confirm that we are warming is that of the effects of the North and South pole. • This is because Co2, when accumulating heat, and other light waves tend to be more effective at lower temperatures. And high into the atmosphere. • So with Co2 being at its greatest collecting heat at lower temperatures, it does things like for one melt the ice. And the amount of thick ice that has been declined about 14%. So on average, the ice is decreasing 0.7% a year.

  13. Effect of the poles continued… • With the amount of ice being melted, and the ice being white, there is nothing to reflect the sun’s light back into the sky. • Also with there being a lack of ice to reflect the light, the rays are able to heat up the surrounding water effecting everything there. • One thing that this effects is the wild life that lives there. One for example is the polar bear.

  14. Continued….. • With the polar bear they travel from different patches of ice everyday to find food. But some have to swim father then others, and rest on the sea ice. • But with the ice thinning they have nothing to rest on, or find food, and usually end up drowning from swimming around.

  15. Melted polar caps • The northern ice cap is ice floating on water. If it melt completely the biggest change will be the salt content of the surrounding water, it will not change the sea level, as it is sitting on the water already it would displace the same amount of water it contains as ice. It will affect the wildlife that lives on the polar ice cap like polar bears, and seals, but will not affect us to any great extent.

  16. Things That We Humans Should Do Instead Of Not Doing • Climate is influenced by many factors, both natural and humans. Things that increase the temperature of the world are trapping heat and other gases from the automobiles.

  17. Power Plants helps increase in the amount of radiation, the sun emits are examples of positive forcing, some what of a heat change and in deification of humans.

  18. We think as humans we live in this world where if something is happening to it then it’s our fault.

  19. Effects from Global Warming has hurt our global peace in many ways with others. One thing is storm strength lending to extreme weather.

  20. It is us humans that created power plants and other machines that releases carbon dioxide and other harmful pollutants into the world.

  21. If there was any results to Global warming it would be sky high on damage to the world. Saving many objects and keeping limited pollution going up into the air and causing dangerous chemicals should be restricted.

  22. Our climates is meant to change on it’s own. Not with the help of us taking the world for granted. There are many places such as Antarctica, Alaska and many other colder climates that are warming up.

  23. There has been many incidents about the world coming to an end but with people smoking, not recycling, or planting any trees and other helpful duties we will come to an end.

  24. The president of the united states is not helping at all, he tried to ask a country that doesn’t like America for more gasoline their response was no. It has came to our attention that Bush is not trying hard enough to save our environment.

  25. So we as a group should join in hands to help our world instead of continually fighting.

  26. Has it ever occur to anybody that if you look at the temperatures from 2000 the temperature has raised dramatically.

  27. Icebergs and icy climates has been melting to its extreme advantage knowing this we humans still use gases and other hot chemicals.

  28. There are many animals that are dyeing because their colder climates are getting to warm for them to stand.

  29. We humans also add extra gases, power plants, paper, cars that takes more gas then needed, Gasoline spills, Fires from cigarettes, and those cigarette smokers that’s something they can help stop doing.

  30. Global Warming Is Caused By Humans • Global Warming is going to continue coming because as hot as it is getting today it shows mountains fallings and icebergs melting and even major city islands sinking.

  31. We’ve been in records about how hot it has gotten but it has never gotten this hot. If gases and pollution keeps elevating it’ll show many coastal states and country disappearing.

  32. It is also said that the core of the earth is widening. We believe that it is from us humans using all of those chemicals that doesn’t need to be used.

  33. We believe that if people were to help out and stop causing carbon dioxide in the world it may not cause a massive distruction.

  34. Carbon Dioxide can cause major destruction to the world and as us humans. It’s hard enough that when we breathe out we are breathing out carbon dioxide and we are taking oxygen as we breathe in.

  35. Planting trees and other oxygen givers can help us and saving paper would also help too. Keeping the earth safe and clean would help us humans.

  36. Recycling plastic and other goods actually helps too. Without any help from others the world will be in the same situation for years to come.

  37. We believe that humans are causing Global Warming not helping and abusing the earth. Not helping the world exist.

  38. Human activity has been increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere ( mostly carbon dioxide from combustion of coal, oil, and gas.

  39. Parts of Canada, Alaska, Siberia, and the Antarctic have been experiencing warming well above the global average for the past few decades.

  40. Warmer temperatures allow mosquitoes that transmit diseases such as maleria to extend their ranges and increase both their biting rate and their ability to infect humans.

  41. Spring now arrives earlier in many parts of the world. Evidence of this comes from earlier dates for plant blooming and leafing and earlier animal egg laying. An earlier spring may disrupt animal migration and alter competitive balances among species.

  42. Plants and animals generally react to consistently warmer temperatures by moving to higher latitudes and elevations. Recent studies reveal that some species already have started to shift their ranges consistent with warming trends. Many populations may become more vulnerable to declining numbers or extinction if warming occurs faster than they can respond.

  43. A warmer climate will bring an increase in precipitation world wide especially during winter and in mid to high latitudes. In addition more precipitation is expected to fall in downpours and heavy snowstorms leading to increased flooding human in land use.

  44. As the climate heats up droughts are expected to become more frequent and severe in some locations. Sustained drought makes wild fires more likely , and crops and trees more vulnerable to pest infestations and diseases.

  45. Some Facts of Global Warming Global warming causes some areas to heat up and other areas to cool down. In the 20th century, the last two decades have been the hottest on record

  46. Global Warming Myths • Global warming will no longer be a big problem as the Ozone layer shrinks. • Global warming and the excess CO2 in the air will benefit us, because they reduce cold-related deaths and help crop growth.

  47. A Few Concerns of Global Warming • That America makes up 25% of the CO2 pollutants, which is more than China, India and Japan together. • How can the pollutants be cut to prevent Global Warming

  48. A Global Good-Bye • Goodbye Baseball (No Ash tree) • Goodbye Fly Fishing (No Rainbow Trout) • Goodbye Polar Bears (Habitat melting) • Goodbye Gray Whales (Water temp rising) • Goodbye Penguins (Warmer waters) • Goodbye Walrus (Pup abandonment)

  49. The media most extreme effects of GLOBAL WARMING • 5th deadliest- Spread of disease • 4th deadliest- More hurricanes and warmer water temperatures • 3rd deadliest- Increased chance of intense droughts and heat waves • 2nd deadliest- Many economic consequences • 1st deadliest- Melting of the Polar Ice Caps

  50. More effects of Global Warming • Sea levels will rise to new heights • Precipitation increase worldwide • Ice melting at the earths poles • Large glaciers melting around the world
