  24. PAST PARTICIPLE • Past participle is used when the verb is in movement in the past. • You use the past participle in connection with haben or sein depending on movement. • The conjugated form of Haben is used for non moving. • The conjugated form of Sein is used for moving. When in the past participle use the infinite form of the verb and add ge- as a prefix EVERYTIME then conjugate for the verb using these prefixes. Ich, er, sie, es, du, Ihr, Wir, Sie all use a –t suffix. Click on page to go to next slide

  25. Examples The conjugated form of Haben is used for non moving. Ich habe eine Geschenk gekauft. Just add ge- prefix to the beginning and conjugate the –t on the suffix ending. Wir haben Fussball gespielt. Once again, add the ge- prefix to the beginning and conjugate the –t suffix ending. Click on the page to go to next slide

  26. Example 2 Use conjugated form of sein when movement is indicated. Wirsind ins Kino gegangen. For Wir pronoun you use sind for Sein and –en suffix for the conjugation ending. Ichbin ins Kino gegangen. For Ich pronoun you use bin for Sein and –en suffix for the conjugation ending. Click on the play button to go to next slide or Click on the home button to go to home slide

  40. More Concepts for Past Participle • Some verbs like töten add an –e before attaching a –st or a –t in the present forms. • So for these special cases you use –et suffix ending in the Past Participle. Hans wurde getötet. Hans was killed. He was killed (action) in the past. Use the ge- prefix and then add the –et suffix ending. Click on the slide to go to next slide

  41. More Concepts for Past Participle Some verbs already come with prefixes attached and you cant have two prefixes. In these cases you add a –t ending or a –en suffix and you keep the original prefix. Ich war entsetzt. I was terrified. (action) in the past Add the –t ending to represent the past participle for the verb. Click on the button to go back to the home page.
