  2. Independent Schools Queensland (ISQ) supports a cross section of diverse schools in all facets of Indigenous education.

  3. SYSTEMIC SUPPORT • Many independent schools have a strong plank of social justice in their values and ethos. As stated by the Australian Anglican Schools Network (AASN) in their final report on Indigenous Education Initiatives in AASN Schools: Building Relationships (2009, p. 4): • The involvement of private sector schools in ‘closing the gap’ has occurred in response to the overwhelming evidence of Indigenous educational underachievement and disadvantage, particularly in remote communities..... Anglican schools have joined other denominational private schools in responding to the call for tangible solutions to break the cycle of disadvantage....

  5. 43,420 students across Queensland completed year 12 in 2009 • For all Indigenous students (of that age) 43.8% or 1,691 completed year 12 overall • Across Queensland 3,864 Indigenous students started senior study but only 1,691 completed which means that 2,184 or 56.5% of those senior students left early without any qualification or result. QSA data - student outcomes in year 12 2009
