3. CAA Option: Pass the test • HSPE – Writing and Reading • Test in March 2012 • Retest in August 2012 • Last opportunity – March 2013 • EOC – Math • Make-up and EOC tests end of May/June 2012 • Retest – Make-ups in Jan/Feb 2013 • Last opportunity – May/June 2013

4. CAA Option: Collection of Evidence (COE) • Must have attempted the HSPE or EOC test twice before senior year to be eligible to submit a COE. • Students compile a set of classroom work samples with the help of a teacher. • The portfolio of their work is submitted to the state and reviewed to see if meets the standards of the state testing.

5. CAA Option: AP or College Admissions Tests Instead of HSPE or EOC Students may use their reading, writing or math scores on the SAT, ACT and some AP tests to show they have key knowledge and skills. 6. CAA Option: GPA Comparison • Cumulative GPA of 3.2+ • A student’s grades in English courses and/or math courses are compared with the grades of students who took the same courses AND passed the HSPE. This option is available to students in their 12th grade year.

11. Other Recommendations/Reminders • Direct admission to 4 year universities: • 2 years of same world language is required for direct admission to 4 year universities. (Students with less than 2 years can still be admitted to community colleges.) • Senior Year Math-Based Course • required unless prior completion of PreCalculus • Recommended for all college bound students • 3rd+ Year of Science • Recommend: Physics, Biology, and Chemistry

12. PE waiver? Athletic waivers are for students who completed a whole season of a sport at Heritage. You may waive up to 1.0 credit for 2 seasons. Forms are available in the Registrars Office and need to be signed by a coach (if on campus) or the Activities Office

13. Middle School Credits • Students who passed high school level classes in middle school may request to bring those credits up(Integrated 1a/b or 2a/b/Geometry or world languages) . • You should review your middle school grades in that subject to make sure it will not damage your GPA (Family Access – “Academic History” • Get the “Choice Credits” form from the Registrars Office – complete it and return to them • All MS credits added to the transcript become part of the cumulative GPA – do your research!

14. Assistants/Exits Students can earn elective credit as a Teacher Assistant or Office Assistant (Main office, Attendance, Counseling) • Students must have good attendance • Students must have a 2.5+ Cumulative GPA To request an exit, you must have 14+ credits, passing state test scores, and a note from your parent/guardian. They are not recommended.

15. Skills Center • Tour on 2/27 – Return permission slips to Mr. Baldwin or Mrs. Hooser • Applications due Friday, 3/9. Most programs use the short application, some require additional pieces. • Takes up 3 periods of your day – counts as CCTE or Occ Ed Credit.

16. Running Start • www.clark.edu/runningstart • $20 Application Fee • Follow process under “Application and Testing Procedures” link from their site. • Eligible test scores – you can take classes at Clark tuition free, you pay for books, transportation and some fees. • Citizenship is not a factor
